As long as the game is still surreal to the point of being creepy I will enjoy it. If they're trying to make it more difficult and "realistic" then I'm sure I'll be easily immersed. Imagination went oh so well with all of the Stalker games that I've played. Though I don't know if getting excited for it is the safest thing to do. I think we're all painfully aware of the (arguably) terrible sequels that have been churned out in the past year or two. Seemed like a much better year for indie developers though which is excellent.

**Warning-Excessive swearing imminent**
I just encountered that asshole of a Bloodsucker who set up the trap. The encounter went something like this-

"Damn this bandit camp is big, wonder where are all of them."
*Looks at the minimap*
"Oh a friendly! Maybe he has a quest for me? Maybe he will help me clear out the place!"
*Runs in the building*
"Wow sure does looks empty"
*Sees a pile of bodies*
"Holy smoke did somebody naded them?"
*Runs towards the guy*
*Suddenly panting*
"HOLYFUCKOHMYGODFUCKFUCKHOLYSHIT"
*Pulls out a frag grenade in panic and throws it*
*Lost to the zone*

The asshole was still alive after a grenade to the face. That bastard.

Oh yes, that place. Fun fact: the building next to it? Basically explodes when you walk into it. The Zone is not a fun place.

Also, that Bandit camp marks one of the most fun and tense firefights in the game if you go in at night with night vision. You're like a vengeful ghost, and to the bandits, in a place like The Zone, you might as well be.

I did that. With my silenced AK and a silenced pistol. Everybody was confused why the fuck was everybody and their dog was dying.

Hey folks,

I heard about the Peoples Soup mod from Rock Paper Shotgun, was wondering if anyone was able to get it worked with Steam? Here is the mod forum link:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1824863

I'm having a tough time getting it working. I grabbed the torrent which apparently has everything you need to get it going, and I have everything in the gamedata folder. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to drop the gamedata folder in the root dir of Stalker or dump the contents into the root dir, but currently it crashes when I try to launch.

Anyone succeed where I fail?

There seems to be a couple of different versions of it. I think I picked up the DMX version which came translated and had a ton of sub-mods like more weapons and the like.

My experience of the mod was varied. It felt like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. upgraded walts and all.

Sorry for the slight necro here but I wanted to ask some knowledgeable people:
I just saw Call of Pripyat in Walmart for $9 and I'm wondering if there's any reason it'd be preferable to get it on Steam? DRM or other issues with the retail version, for example. It was in a little CD-case-sized package.

Because if not I'm gonna have to head back there.

I once tried Shadow of Chernobyl. That thing was so effing buggy and unbalanced, it was nigh unplayable.

Get that one mod that's really popular, whatever it's called.

Hey, 9 bucks is 9 bucks and I'm pretty sure you'll need Steam to activate it either way. I'd say go for it.

So, Stalker 2 is going to have permanent-internet-access-DRM. For a mainly single-player game, because, of course, we're all dirty criminals and can't be trusted with our purchased products.

I can't believe they're doing this, but I think they might change their minds when they realise how many fanbases are pissed off at this and thus how much money they'll lose, unless they plan to cash in on the more naive console players.

That's very dumb and never worked, I wonder when they'll twig to that.
