I didn't realize where I was getting attacked from or by what the first time I got jumped by a controller. By the time I figured out where it was, I figured I could shoot it in the face since I always picked accuracy over power and went pure headshots.

Have any of you even been raped by a controller and a Pseudogiant? It HURTS.

Not that hard. Have you ever experienced 6 bloodsuckers attacking you at the same time?
I did. I friggin panicked and shot everywhere. I suck at firing guns at close quarters(for the record, I could snipe people with my AK from half a mile across. Yeah when they are small tiny blips on the horizon)

Your best bet, when confronted with bloodsuckers, is to keep moving. Preferably, backwards and shooting. Just keep calm and don't run into any anomalies.

As great as STALKER is, I tend to ruin it for myself by whoring the quicksave feature. If I'm not saving every minute, something is wrong.

It's why I'd really like to grab that run and gun mod- everything respawns on a reload.

I'd hate that. Borderlands did something similar and it was a deal breaker for me.

"Oh, lol, you died and respawned. Well, guess what? So did everything else in the area, in the same places as before. And you have to kill them all again."

One thing I really like about STALKER is that you can clear the monsters out of an area and they'll stay gone for a while, then come back.

Also, yes, quicksave whoring. STALKER does crash a lot, even when patched and it's a very good idea to save frequently. Me, I quicksave every time I kill something and always make a save with a descriptive name before I head into a new area or am getting close to a major event.

Its much worse than a zone repopping. Every death and subsequent quick save reload means the spawn rates increase by a factor of X. I'm not sure of the exact number but its pretty easy to end up with very large packs of roaming dogs and chimera.

I got to the lab today.

Was killed by a fire anomaly after shotgunning two bloodsuckers.

D:

But damn, that place is creepy.

Oh god. Two-week bump, but I'm trying to play this game, and I simply can't get past the first encounter of SoC on the easiest difficulty. Do I just suck, or am I going at it wrong?

Which encounter would that be? These things can be a bit random in STALKER. The character I was supposed to talk to in one of the first storyline quests got killed by a huge pack of blind dogs just as I was approaching him. Oh, and then I got killed by a bandit patrol that just wandered by.

It's the very first mission, a bunch of abandoned buildings with about eight enemies, and four or so other guys on your side.

Oh, the old farm. Just don't rush it, stay behind cover as much as possible and clear out the houses one by one. I don't think keeping the allies alive matters much.

Hrm. I'll try, and come running back if it turns out I'm as bad at first-person cover shooters as I am at stealth games :/

If it helps, use grenades. I simple tossed a few grenades and then rushed the right side building, there was only like one alive when I got in there, my allies were all fine too.

my champion is now holding his artifact crossbow by his upper left leg and still shooting with is just fine despite having no hands.
What? He's firing from the hip.

Don't even worry about your "friends". They don't need to survive. But you can use them to your advantage. They should do a good job of distracting the enemy for a while, so just come 'round the back.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

AI always impressed me in STALKER.  They move around unexpectedly and will even flank you.

The STALKER games just have a much more dynamic feel to them than most shooters.
