Gar, reading this now is tempting me......

I played Vanilla SoC, and CoP. Never tried CS. Of the three, is Stalker complete still the best experience all around? I really appreciated some of the extra gadgets and the Emissions from CS, but Stalker was bigger and just did more for my immersion in the end.

As for realistic bullet physics....I like how the game goes from incredibly hard with crappy guns, to incredibly easy with good guns, to incredibly hard again when you start running into monsters and power armor. And by like I mean it basically throws weapon reality out the window after a certain point. Killing Dwarfs with assault rifles for instance is just absurd for how much ammo it takes in Vanilla.

Complete is available for all 3 games.

Sounds like the best part.

Ah, I see.

That said, I still don't find it too unrealistic in the context of a giant monster filled Chernobyl exclusion zone with anomalies fueling new scientific discovery. I'm willing to forgive a lot here.

Radiation mutates the animals into something unnatural. What it doesn't do is make a shotgun into a sniper rifle.
The technology that's being created from the anomalies recovered from the zone could well be.

But then, that's not actually in the backstory and never will be, because it's not a detail that's going to bring suspension of disbelief crashing down.

Yes it is a detail to bring suspension of disbelief crashing down.
Stalker is known for its realistic ballistics. I don't know what that actually means but for me it means the gunplay is much more entertaining than most of the FPS I have played.(I haven't played GRAW) Its the only game in which I liked using iron sights. The weapon may have been fun to play with but it feels out of place and is better off in a game like bulletstorm or painkiller.
Oh, okay. You probably shouldn't play it, then.

e: Okay, I am sorta just messing around here. I agree, it is a rather silly gun.

Yeah I've been playing that mod myself. It's fun and adds a lot.

Has it's issues though. exosuits are everywhere, I picked up one at garbage, GARBAGE!
Load times are massive, if you go to a new area or die expect a few minutes waiting at the load screen.
Translations are really really poor. It can be quite hard to figure out what you're a agreeing to.
The artifacts are useless due to them producing radation even in your bag (not on your belt) unless you put them in lead boxes.
The swamps are very very buggy and were impossible for me to venture more than 50 metres into.
Repearing gear is a NIGHTMARE. Wish they would just use the SoC Complete repearing system.

Though if you can get over those flaws and/or a native russian speaker. Go for it, it's really the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience.

My first impressions:

People are made of steel and can take over 9000 bullets from an AK47 on the chest before they die. Their heads are made of marshmallow tho.

The AI does a fair job at some times and at other times I can hide in a bush and they will bump into me just to get headshot and the next enemy will repeat this until they're all dead. Kind of like the "Pick me up" grenade.

Animal packs behave annoyingly well and each type of animal behaves differently, it's nice to stalk a dog to see him dragging a corpse to nomnomnom it.

Night time with a storm is really really freaking dark. I like that. More games should have realistic light setting.

Weapon/Armor condition? Lolwut? Can I repair them somehow?

I just wish it wasn't so hard to spot anomalies when it's super dark out. Many a time have I run directly into an anomaly because I didn't see it.
I at least figured out that headshots can actually kill someone in one hit, though I feel like my pistol being silenced doesn't actually have any effect.

Silenced weapons in stalker are realistic, especially with mods like complete. They still make noise, just less. Also are you reloading after every few shots? Reloading makes way more noise than firing any silenced weapon.

They know where the hurt is coming from, so they will turn towards you anyway. You really need to have some cover right in front of you so you can hide.

As far as I've noticed, with the stalker complete mod.

It still seems like even the person who doesn't get hit turns exactly towards you, but maybe I'm wrong.

Ah. That's a Controller. Uhm...your best bet is to shot it with a rocket launcher. Repeatedly. Or shoot it from as far away as possible, because its telekinesis has a range quite a bit shorter than any mid-level rifles.

I had just slaughtered a squad of military, and continued exploring. I heard a guttural sound and looked around not seeing anything, and figured it was another Bloodsucker.
I then walked to a dead end, turned around, and had my mind blown while I tried to shoot it with a rifle.

That encounter has to be one of the best if not the best part of SoC. It's never failed to make onlookers watching over my shoulder go "HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" when it happens.

That's why you shoot them alone and in the face. Otherwise forget it.
