Ah, I see.

That said, I still don't find it too unrealistic in the context of a giant monster filled Chernobyl exclusion zone with anomalies fueling new scientific discovery. I'm willing to forgive a lot here.

Radiation mutates the animals into something unnatural. What it doesn't do is make a shotgun into a sniper rifle.

I wouldn't put it past an anomaly to catch the slug in mid air and lob it at what you were aiming for giggles. They seem like trolls as it is. Always making me mad.

What? He's firing from the hip.

Sure, a pet anomaly that travels faster than a bullet and follows anything that is fired from a shotgun with a scope. Makes perfect sense.

The technology that's being created from the anomalies recovered from the zone could well be.

But then, that's not actually in the backstory and never will be, because it's not a detail that's going to bring suspension of disbelief crashing down.

Yes it is a detail to bring suspension of disbelief crashing down.
Stalker is known for its realistic ballistics. I don't know what that actually means but for me it means the gunplay is much more entertaining than most of the FPS I have played.(I haven't played GRAW) Its the only game in which I liked using iron sights. The weapon may have been fun to play with but it feels out of place and is better off in a game like bulletstorm or painkiller.

So feeling inspired I reinstalled Stalker CoP and downloaded the Complete mod........after crying blood for 3 minutes my computer pulled out a Makarov PM and shot itself.

Seriously after about 5 minutes my fps dropped to a stuttering jittering mess. I guess I had better hurry and build a new computer before the crysis 2 mod.

The hook, at least for me, isn't about authentic weapons nor incredibly real ballistics! SoC provides an interesting fusion of tragic reality, horror, film, gaming and a sci-fi short story.

YMMV.

What mods do you guys recommend (Preferably with links) for SoC?

I should be able to give it a spin tonight. :D

Gar, reading this now is tempting me......

I played Vanilla SoC, and CoP. Never tried CS. Of the three, is Stalker complete still the best experience all around? I really appreciated some of the extra gadgets and the Emissions from CS, but Stalker was bigger and just did more for my immersion in the end.

As for realistic bullet physics....I like how the game goes from incredibly hard with crappy guns, to incredibly easy with good guns, to incredibly hard again when you start running into monsters and power armor. And by like I mean it basically throws weapon reality out the window after a certain point. Killing Dwarfs with assault rifles for instance is just absurd for how much ammo it takes in Vanilla.
