Yes, if you want to get a nice shooter. If you no want nice shooter, go at night. Hide behind rocks and shift-crouch under the fallen tree, then run for safety.

did it at night, had forgotton to max out gamma and brightness so i was playing in total darkness now i can see where the patrols are etc.

I actually just ran, i found (after many deaths) an angle where i could run faster than the gun could track me.

After that got through to freedom in the dark valley pretty quick and now enroute back to garbage.

How do the equipment/cash dynamics work in this game? In shadow of chenobyl it wasnt worth taking side missions or buying expensive stuff (just ammo and occasionally meds). Is it worth buying stuff and upgrading ur guns in this game, or do u just find better stuff quicker?

ive done a few small side jobs and payed for some upgrades but im wondering if its worth it. Upgrades arnt cheap.

Dude, do all of the side missions and other things, they're useful. Don't take part in the faction wars until you milked the factions of their use during Neutral mode. Upgrades are very good, you could have a G36 with even higher fire rate, or a Sniper AN-94. Doing missions can net you a few thousand rubles for a good mission run.

Also doing side-missions in SHoC is actually pretty rewarding if you ask me, easy to do and no hassle for buying stuff.

Missions in SHoC were worthless since you don't need to buy anything. Really in the end all my money went to was getting ammo for my Vintorez before going into the red forest. And I found I didn't need all that extra ammo anyway.

The Vintorez and stuff are nice, but I prefer to be cheap and efficient and reliable. And not slower than a Pseudogiant.

That's why you carry a pistol. And it's the SVD that slows you down a lot, not the Vintorez.

For the MG post, I just duck behind cover until it stops shooting, then run to the next cover. The tricky part is when you have to cut to the left towards the newbie village. I still end up using several medkits and bandages.

Of course, that's only time the military is any particular trouble for me. Raiding their base afterwards is so fun. Rewarding too, about 10k plus a crapton of ammo and army medkits each raid.

I just rely on an Assault SiG and a Sniper AN-94.
It gets what I need done quickly and efficiently.

By a better detector do you mean the one that shows exactly where it is, if you can make sense of the little screen? Because that one's nice, I never could manage with the earlier ones because they basically require you to run around in an anomaly while trying to narrow down where the artifact is.

You're supposed to have gotten one when Lebedev sends you out to the outpost, but otherwise, near anomalies is really all it gives you. You can usually spot most anomalies(except those gravity wells, which I've walked right into one without even knowing it was there) from a ways off. There's one artifact in an enclosed area in Freedom's base, but it's in a high-rad area surrounded by electricity anomalies, and you have to glitch through a window in the hangar to get to it, and getting out has you dodging some kind of rolling fire anomaly(no artifact) in a narrow space.

The Garbage is supposed to be the first place you see any real artifact hunting, although there's some in the Swamps as well. I don't even know if there are any artifacts at all in the Cordon.

By high rad you mean "so low it barely increases your rads at all"? Yeah it's kind of tense when the screen goes all black and white and grainy, but that doesn't always mean "OHSHIT RADS IMA DIE NOW!". Sometimes it does, but not in this case.

I also don't recall having to glitch to get into the enclosed area, though it wasn't easy finding an entrance. The closed off building to the side, where the bandit HQ was in SoC, also affords a view of the freedom commander's room, without the whole "you can't use your weapon" thing that bases have, though it takes a bit of searching to find a room with a view of his head. Killing him doesn't have any negative repercussions with freedom, oddly enough, though it does preclude you from joining them or doing quests for them, if the quests involve him.

There are also several exits from that building that drop you either off to the side, or back in the freedom base, you just have to explore a little to find them.

As many others (I assume) I bought CoP and SoC in the steam sale for the criminal price of 7 euros. But dude, this is one weird game.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.
