So after some crap I made my way out, when this odd zombie dude appeared behind me. I'll just shoot it an-WHATTHEHELLISTHISZOOMINEFFECTGETITAWAYGETITAWAY

 What the hell was this?

Man, you're progressing fast.  To answer some inherent questions - what's down in the underground is more or less random each time you enter.  It's supposed to be full of bandits the first time, but I guess it can be empty too.  I can't believe you actually snuck up on a bloodsucker.  As for the "zombie dude" (who's not actually a zombie), yeah they do that.  By the way, your SMP bullets weren't bouncing off, they just kinda look like that with the invisibility effect.  All the mutants take a stupid amount of damage to react, but they're vulnerable to headshots like anything else.  They also have no armor, unlike essentially all human enemies, so the shotgun is supposed to work great on them.

By the way Duke, after you grab the documents from the building on the other end of the tunnel (when you meet the crazy zooming effect guy, the tunnel is nearly over), you have to actually walk out of the compound back to the other building and then leave for the quest-end marker.  If you try to just grab the docs and walk back through the tunnel, the scripting goes a little funky and you'll have to backtrack back out.

Personally, I thought the compound was a much harder fight than the tunnels, it's just not as creepy.  I took out the zooming guy with a grenade, since you can't exactly shoot at him.

You don't have to use euphemisms Aqizzar. He's a telepathic mutant. It's ok, he doesn't mind.

Yeah, military base was no problem. Tossed a grenade up onto a guard tower and took the position when the dude went flying out. After everybody in that corner was taken down I moved to the building, where there was only one guy guarding the intel. I heard a chopper so I went to the roof to make sure it was just flying by and didn't go for me when I got out of the building. I also found I could kill the siren, so that helped my ears a bit. Now walking to the bar where all these quests seem to end.

And a base defense mission that seemed to end before I got there. Huh.

Edit: Just hit a checkpoint that radioed that they were being overrun with mutants. Five boars showed up to a force of like ten stalkers. The radio guy then told me I was useless when it took them five seconds to end the attack.

That's pretty much the way I took it all down, although I circled around the western side and made sure to kill every soldier there, not yet realizing that they respawn when you leave.  Grenading the dude in the tower was very satisfying.  Stalker has some hilarious ragdolling.

And a base defense mission that seemed to end before I got there. Huh.

That happens a bit.  Usually it's because you either unknowingly killed enough of the group that was supposed to do the attacking while they were on their way there, or because the Stalker base under attack fended off the attackers on their own.  You can claim the reward all the same.  Heck, I've let the reward expire more times than I've claimed it, because I just don't bother keeping track.

I continued my new game of vanilla STALKER today. After going into the Garbage, I helped the Loner being mugged by Bandits (who normally gets killed by them), so that he survived and helped stop the bandit raid at the junkyard. I then proceeded to help stop the bandit raid myself by hopping in a bus and shooting at bandits.

I got to the train station where Seriy (the guy after Fox in the story quest-line) was. I proceeded to attempt to help them, but did terribly (I was sitting in a corner waiting for a Bandit to pass by), so the Stalkers all got slaughtered. I then hopped in the train car and waited for bandits to come in. I then spammed grenades inside the train car. They died.

I died too of course, but that didn't prevent it from being somewhat satisfying. I stopped there for the night.

Alright, I'm calling everybody who said bloodsuckers are hard pansies. They may be transparent but they can't see worth shit. I ran up to a train platform, failed to jump over it, tried to jump on some barrels, failed, and collapsed exhausted. Then I looked to my side to see a Bloodsucker, invisible and oblivious to what I had just done. So I whipped out my SGL 5k and took it down with one burst.

So yeah, pansies. All of you.

It's mostly the fear factor, Duke.

And the part where they're unstoppable godless killing machines in every single mod.

The ones in CoP can stun you. And they actually strafe!

Blarg. In an underground lab now. Fire anomalies are everywhere and blocking my path. Any way to bypass these things?

On the contrary, one must run straight through them before they light up. Cool little boss fight at the end there. Kinda hard to tell if I was doing anything with what I did though.

There is a way around them but it's really hard to spot because their tell is so very nearly invisible. Just throw a screw in and go where the fire ain't. I think that the anomaly is deactivated for a split second anyway.

As for bloodsuckers, I no longer fear them. I mean, I had two encounters that were scary because they jumped me, but other than that, nothing doing. I actively hunt them down now, if I see them out of the corner of my eye, because getting the drop on them is just incredibly satisfying.

Bloodsuckers in CoP are tougher, know how to strafe and flank you, and do that constantly with hit & run. They never run straight at you.

They can also stun you for a few seconds if they can latch on to you, and they're pretty much completely invisible except for their eyes now.

All that and there's still far more dangerous mutants in CoP :(

I got SoC through steam with the THQ pack a while ago, what's the name of the mod that's basically 100% buxfixes and graphical enhancements?
