If it says your Nvidia driver is stopping, that sounds like a driver issue not a game issue.  Games should not be able to crash your drivers D:

Borked textures, crazy rainbow lighting, air effects jumping all over the place.
Are you sure you didn't just walk into an anomaly? Because that sounds a lot like the visual effects some of them cause when you get caught in one.

The last time I closed the game, it hadn't wigged out, but when it closed it gave me a message about my Nvidia driver stopping.  I suppose I should get a patch, but I figured the Steam version would be the latest.  Wrong?
Was it "<Name of driver> stopped responding and had to be restarted" or something? That occasionally happens with games, I'm not sure why, but it's pretty rare.

I did it. I went into X18 and I killed each and every paint can flinging motherfucker who looked at me sideways and it was nowhere near as scary as I expected it to be. I guess I hyped it up too much.

Thank God.

I highly doubt there's any anomaly in Yantar that would turn the sky black, the factory walls bright yellow, the Snorks solid pink, the tree trunks invisible, and cause the water surface to hover a foot in the air.  But that would one fucking awesome anomaly.  What a great game, where the graphics glitches just improve the experience!  Except for making inventory management impossible.

Well, what freaked me out about it was I kept getting lost finding my way around, my desperate attempts to avoid the paintcans kept landing me in Burners (which is pretty nerve wracking), but mostly in was because I had no idea what I was looking for.  I killed the big fat thing (remarkably easy), which I thought would stop the telekinesis.  It didn't.  Then after bouncing off the walls and catching fire a lot, I killed the burny sphere.  That didn't stop the telekinesis either.  So I was getting a little weirded out, and I figured the longer I stayed, the more dangerous things would get, which just makes things harder.  I didn't know the paintcan flingers could be killed too, because I didn't even know what they were.

Then again, I still have a lingering, deep seated aversion to the ghosts in Mario 3, so maybe I'm just a big blubbering pussy.  Besides, it's fun to hype things up, it's a high point of the game.

I tell you what though, this Yantar factory is getting on my nerves.  The ghosts and shadows were creepy, Snorks and zombies are just annoying.

That's... definitely strange. Of course, I had a persistent problem in Clear Sky where the skybox would randomly not load on entering a region, so the sky turned into the generic "not drawing" effect.

There are annoying blue balls flying all over the place. Shoot them until they stop flying all over the place. There's like 12.

I really miss their bodies in CoP, when you kill them they just sorta vanish, in SoC these wierd looking thigs appear out of those blue balls.

Also +1 on the hyping up, i remember my first playtrough of CoP and meeting that first guy who started talking about the dredge station and the iron forest, immediatley my brain goes into overdrive conjuring freaky images.A giant dam-like builiding filled with some strange shit scarier than the bloodsuckers, then the damn thing turns out to be a ship, then i get the strange lights quest and get yet again freaked out by my imagination thinking up crazy stuff as the source of the light.I spent three ingame days sitting by that campfire looking at the damn thing trough the binoculars waiting for something. Then when i finnaly manned up and went it wasn't all that scary really.
And the Iron Forest was another letdown, i really imagined a big pinewood forest that was turned to iron by something, populated by those can flinging bastards, then it turns out to be a freaking transformer station, and a small one at that.

It helps to think realistically. These are real places, part of the creepiness of the stalker games is things can at times be not so far removed from reality.

Or sometimes really, REALLY far removed. Like that odd circus anomaly, and the scar anomaly too. Hell pretty much anything involved with psychic radiation.

I can't explain the Symbiont.
It's just a messed up place of nature there. I'm wondering what happened to the trees, or was it a clearing in the first place?

The guys who made the STALKER games actually went into the Zone to get the most accurate map as they possibly could for Call of Pripyat.

And of course no matter what, the scariest parts will always be underground.

And yeah X18 isn't much of any trouble at all in vanilla SoC. It's easy to just run through the whole place and kill all the Poltergeists, as constantly moving makes it harder for them to hit you too.

Every single mod loves adding crap like Bloodsuckers, Burers and such down there though. :(

Aaaand... DIDNT! They got a lot of inspiration, buildings, landscapes, etc, but if you've actually been to pripyat it's a completely diffrent place. Seriously. 0:0 geographical accuracy. Diffrent city.

Because the city of Pripyat is a very tiny place and is also the entire Zone.

Just ignore the two non-Pripyat areas that are almost copy paste from real life.

Didn't the Exclusion Zone double in size into the zone we see in STALKER? I'm pretty sure they said that.

I don't remember it saying that anywhere, nor do I find it mentioned anywhere in plotline. Although currently I'm only reading off the STALKER wiki.

I think the narrator of CoP said that in the Intro.
