Hmmm, when I run up to the controller even when I'm right next to him he still keeps raping me.

Right now I'm guessing one of Oblivion Lost's bug fixes is to make Controllers able to mind rape you even when you're hugging them.

I got stuck on that Controller too, ToonyMan, for a while, he's pretty hard to kill. In the end he ended up in the room with the stairwell, and I ran up to near him, took cover behind something, popped out of cover, fired from the hip, and went back into cover, reloaded and repeated until he died. I think I used a grenade as well, though that might have been in one of the attempts where I died. BTW I using Oblivion Lost on Hard so it should work for you as well, though I think you mentioned that you tried something similar already.

Yeah. OL stole the re-addition of the Melee attack.

You really should be using AMK though.

What does AMK do?

It does better mod things than OL.

I retreated.  I retreated hard.  I fled all the way back to newb camp in Condor.  I had to fight my way through radiation, anomalies, and enemy factions.  At the very end I was mauled by two boars that almost killed me with my sucky shotgun skills.  I was out of bandages and I was bleeding at orange level.  I slowly lumbered myself through camp in a hilariously fashion because I was over encumbered before finally reaching the trader for a well earned bandage.

So, I finally broke down and bought Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam.  That's the first game right?  And I should play it before the other two?  I just want to make sure I'm not spoiling anything for myself, more than skimming over this thread has.

Yeah, it is.  Get mods.  The game is pretty lame without mods.  Try to find one that makes anomalies invisible.

I once home-made a mod that got rid of the detector and made most anomalies invisible.  Take two steps, toss bolt.  Take two steps, toss bolt.

I think I'm going to learn how to play the game before I learn how to break/anger it.  I mean, short of a "Better Heads/Bodies" situation like Morrowind, I don't think it's worthwhile playing a modded game before seeing it vanilla.

I hope it's not bad form talking about STALKER: First Game in a thread about the third title.  Something tells me I'm going to have some questions.

Mod finite bolts for added challenged!  :P

Anyway, I just finished reading Roadside Picnic, the fiction that inspired STALKER series.

I so badly want Call of Pripyat nao!

Disregard this advice. There are no SoC mods that are not infuriatingly horrible.

Yeah I wish the thread was titled more generically like just STALKER or something.

No. OL is horrible, and LURK fucks over every aspect of the game, from the graphics to the UI.
