...master difficulty isn't the way most people are going to play the game.

Hell, i've been through on master and can tell you that.

Any experienced players will play on noting short of master.

I've been through on master, with no HUD and a ridiculously low brightness, and can tell you that  ;)

Pah, its fun but I like being able to run through the games without having to save before every anomaly field sometimes. Therefore, I don't run through on master.

There is an in game indicator for anomaly fields.
You start hearing beeps whenever you are close to one, you can also throw bolts to detect them. I don't know about you but in master difficulty, I only saved every session/half hour. No saving between.

Not everyone wants to throw bolts all around figuring out where all the anomaly fields are, even if they can.

I believe that quote from the previous page sums it up.

I may be wrong, but I think that beeping and/or the geiger are somehow linked to having a HUD. When I play without one, I only get the beeping and crackling when I open my inventory, which also brings up the mini-map and such. (CoP at least)

As for running through anomaly fields, that's what the Svarog is for.

So, I eventually did decide on going out and buying CoP. However, i'm told its far better modded. Could anyone recommend some mods?

EDIT: I Also just noticed the minor resurrection but i'm not about to go and make a new thread over one question. :P

Call of Pripyat: Complete. Best mod that's the closest to vanilla as possible.

Honestly, i'd play the game first. I still like playing through vanilla on occasion, its the only stalker game in which I would too.

Don't care if this is necro, this game is too good to not be discussed about.

So I was playing STALKERSOUP (An English version of the Russian Megamod "Narodnaya Solyanka" or "People Soup").

Decided to assault those military dudes patrolling in the Cordon. Left and went to the bridge to see if Kuznetsov is hostile or not, he wasn't. Several helicopters were around the area, presumably searching for me or something, which they didn't.

On my way to Garbage I found a Quirk artifact and returned to Sidorovich.

When I returned a gunfight broke out. It seems that the military, pissed as hell, decided to send those HELICOPTERS to the rookie village and deployed Spetsnaz. Witness well armed soldiers slaughtering the loners, even the Veteran ones. Only ones that survived are 2 people that are green because I helped them out in quests (I guess they're "essential" in this mod). The loners put on a good fight and took many down, but the spetsnaz just spammed grenades and killed all the loners. I ran in with my USAS-12 and shotgunned all the people, some requiring MORE THAN ONE POINT BLANK HIT TO THE HEAD. There were even CLOAKED SOLDIERS.

Here's to give you an idea of the death count, look at the minimap, the grey dots represent dead people:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Many died because of me.

P.S. Major Kuznetsov is still happy to trade with me.

The military parked an APC outside the rookie village in one of my games of STALKERSOUP. I had to go the long way when I wanted to trade which was extremely annoying. Also any stalkers from the rookie village that would attempt to go out and hunt would be butchered. I got fed up with it and ended up blowing it up with a whole bunch of rifle grenades.

I've recently started a new game of STALKERSOUP since it's been months since I've played it. Haven't gotten too far but I managed to get to the Duty Bar. My new preferred starting weapon is an AK-74 with 4x scope, under barrel grenade launcher and silencer. It's got a nice comfortable rate of fire, great accuracy with easily controlled recoil that makes a nice impromptu sniper rifle. Decent at medium ranged combat.
I'm still using a silenced PB-6P9 pistol, been looking for a decent shotgun sidearm. Also have some SKAT-10 armour I managed to loot from some Military Stalkers. I'm sitting on about 400 rounds of 5.45x99mm FMJ after some successful raids on military bases. I think I'm going alright although I might have to go artefact hunting/crafting soon.

I didn't get any SKAT-10 armor, only SKAT-9, the Spetsnaz don't even have armour on them, while the grunts carried the Berill armour.

I think the Abakan's better, burst fire best fire.

Where did you get the SKAT-10 armour???

SKAT-10 I found at Agroprom when I decided to fight off the military counter-attack after stealing the documents. I did have to kill a lot of military though, it's where the brunt of my ammo came from.
I don't mind the Abakan but I find it easier to snipe off targets (particularly a couple in a row) without burst. Like I said I like the AK's automatic, it doesn't chew through ammo too fast and it let's you still deal some damage if you miss the first kill shot. The AK-74 is just so durable and stable for me to give up at the moment. Easy and cost effective to replace and maintain as well.

I'm a bit of a sniping man as you can see. In Call of Pripyat I used to run around with a SVUmk-2 and a Wind of Freedom suit. I could take out a few primary targets before retreating, repositioning and taking out some more. A sidearm shotgun would help protect me against any mutants or flanks from stalkers.

I also love using hunting rifles with slug rounds but they do sadly lose a lot of their performance once you've found a scope for your main rifle. Still great for taking down heavily armoured targets from range if you can aim with sights.
