So, I'm at the Warehouses, SoC.  I really want to help out Duty, because they're cool and have nice stuff and I want them on my good side and teyh kill mutants and dont afraid of anything.  Skull, at the farmhouse, wants me to kill the sniper so they can attack.  I already let this happen once, when the AI wigged out and all the Freedom guys filed over to the farmhouse to be killed, but then I got killed and didn't quicksave.

Problem: Skull is already dead, because the dumbass insisted on standing outside in plain view of the sniper he asked me to kill.  Which leads to the amusing spectacle of the rest of the Duty cadre sitting around a campfire in their exoskeletons strumming guitars a few feet from their leader's corpse.  But now I can't finish that mission.

So I might as well kill them for the Freedom guys, but I don't want Duty mad at me, since I apparently did enough stuff for them that most Duty NPCs elsewhere in the world are officially Green to me.  I guess I could just leave, but I don't want all this futzing around to be for naught.

Duty doesn't care if you kill them, if I remember correctly, and you can get on duty's good side if you bring the bulldog grenade launcher (one of the most useless weapons in the game) to them, once they give you the mission for it, which will unlock the second tier of stuff in their shop, including the dragunov.

If you actually talk to the Duty guys they say they don't give two shits about the ones camping at the farmstead getting ready to attack Freedom. And Duty doesn't get mad at you if you help Freedom kill them.

So yeah, the Duty guys.  Three were already dead, and even though the AI wigged out again, after a solid hour of retries and restarts, I finally wrangled the NPCs well enough to, I thought, complete their mission.  I talk to the Freedom boss, he says go talk to Max.  I manage to shag down Max while he's going nuts, his script triggers and assembles a squad to attack Duty.  We go to the farmhouse and kill Duties, I even pop one in the head just to make sure I'm hostile to them.  Max's pathfinding borks out again, and runs him straight into the compound wall, where I can't approach him without the snipers flagging me hostile.

Then while running around in the compound, the game goes screwy again and Max teleports inside.  But he won't finish the quest.  The marker is still there to kill the Duty group, and even though Max is back at his rest position, all he says is to talk to him after the guys are killed.  The boss just says to talk to him.  I've exited the map and reentered, danced around the site and grenaded the corpses, and I already had to redo this whole series of idiocy like five times.  What the fuck do I have to do to make this shit work the way it's supposed to?

At least for the Steam (XP) install, it's in Drive:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\stalker-shoc\screenshots

Use a bugfix mod?

I played through vanilla all of once and that was almost two years ago. I don't remember it going that terribly bad for me though.
