It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

Olivine, because you dont' see the color very much.

Bauxite, because it's such a rare treat and so useful.

Marble, looks nice.

Dolomite, because it's dolomite, motherfucker.

I don't care about the type of rock so much as the color. Yellow, dark red, dark grey, and white are nice, but not too hard to find. Blue, purple, and bright red are even better, but harder to find. I don't care much for microcline or olivine (olivine has platinum, though, which is nice, but I generally don't have much use for it).

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

bauxite

looks like blooooood. and is magma-proof.
I bring a heap with any extra embark-points.

Due to lack of both of those stones, I made mine from dolomite and slate. Yours is more awesome though D:

I enjoy the more colorful rocks, microline, olivine, orthoclas(sp), realgar, ect. I try to make all my outer walls and workshops out of these stones. After that its the darker stones like obsidian.

Kimberlite for it's soft blue colour.
Olivine for it's delicious green colour (and serpentine for it's awesome name.)
Obsidian because it is awesome in general.
Chalk because I like to imagine all my dwarves covered in a cloud of chalky dust.

In no particular order pitchblende, obsidian, and lignite. Pitchblende because who doesn't like radioactive material. Obsidian is just obvious and the only stone you can actually make more of. Lignite because I was one of the pioneers of the burning lignite in a bin research where magma-proof bin + lignite block + magma = !!awesome!!.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I like granite.  It's a nice neutral color that fits in anywhere.  I also like marble as it has a pretty high value for stone that takes up an entire layer and it's fun to build with.  I also like microcline, bauxite and olivine for their various colors.  Orthoclase gets on my nerves but I've been known to use it from time to time.  I also like diorite as it's a pretty common stone with a nice dark color.  I'd probably like obsidian if I ever found any.

I like orthoclase. Yes, it's a hideous bright yellow, but that makes it stand out. Therefore, I make all my temporary constructions out of it, so I can tell without having to think about it whether it's okay to remove this ramp or these stairs. Permanent constructions are made of pretty much everything else. Except microcline. Microcline gets atomized because I hate the fact that it's so common and the game pauses and zooms to it every single time you hit a pocket. Also I don't like the color.

You know you love it. Don't deny it.
Everyone feels a burst of joy whenever they strike such a beautiful stone. Especially when said area is a proposed apartment area, due for numerous eye-catching engravings of a brilliant cyan.
