I wasn't even going to sign up for any more Mafia games, so why am I annoyed that this is taking so long to start up? I fear I may have developed an addiction.

Why do you think I've stopped signing on so much?  I get addicted to something wacky (e.g., reading terrible fanfiction) every 4 years or so.  Fortunately, I managed to break this one before it got too ridiculous >_>

Sign up for a game once in a while, doodabuddy.  I'll miss you too much, otherwise.

For the past, ohh, 14 years I've spent just about a year on a new fad.  It started with IRC, then Muds, other games, and a good few other matters.  I go in, spend a year on it, then fade out.  I may be still doing the same thing but always in a new venue  (meh, I mudded for about 8 years but in a new Mud each time) .

..and yes, I know I'm almost a year into Bay 12.

The time I personally spend on obsessions depends on various factors.  When I started being good enough at literary analysis to break stories (i.e. guess from the first chapter how an entire novel is going to play out), I largely stopped reading.  A lot of the point was gone.  Same goes for fanfiction--once I'd determined precisely how to make writing bad, I stopped reading it.

When I become "sufficiently good" at this game in all its incarnations, I'll probably leave... but for now, I've still got plenty to learn.

The nice thing about mafia is that your opponents tend to adapt with you.  Since people work out your strategy and read your meta, there isn't really an optimal one to stay on.

For the record, I think the reason I'm often hard to read is moodswings.  You're more likely to be reading my current hormone levels than my alignment, in most cases.

Oddly enough, pretty much no one tries to use meta on me (though I can't fully understand why).  Accusations tend to run into the "you're being less irritable than usual" category =/  I also don't understand why so few serious lynch attempts are run on me, but that's just how it is.

For me, I believe it's a combination of 1. moodswings and 2. a giant mental program-thing I made to stabilize said moodswings.  Thus I vary erratically between being able to control my moods almost perfectly and not keeping them clamped down.  Often, a difference is visible between simultaneously-running games >_>
