Gather wood.

After this I'll have 9, enough to start constructing a small shelter for myself. Then I can gather some more food and start working on a granary.

I'll probably start off sharing walls for these initial structures, to save time. I'll break them out into separate building once I have the basics down.

I'm thinking something like this:

That will give me a tiny shack (just a bed under a roof with walls and a door) and a slightly larger granary structure with my barrel and an open floor that's covered. Which should give me 40 total food storage. More then enough to gather up a bunch of food and start working on real housing to attract migrants with.

I'll need 18 wood for that structure, total, which isn't bad.

Question: Can soldiers cycle beds? The night-shift won't be sleeping at the same time as the day shift.

Do we need to worry about fresh water? I assume the ocean is salty?

And are we using 2 food every 3 total turns (with one turn of the three being night-time and we don't get any work done at that time)? So this next turn we would use 2 food. Right?

Constructions start with the walls first - otherwise you're building the floor first, which is also the ceiling/roof... which makes no sense. The building isn't usable till it is completely finished, anyway.

Question: Can soldiers cycle beds? The night-shift won't be sleeping at the same time as the day shift.
I'll make it an option in the military screen.

No, you don't worry about water. I was going to use it, but that would of complicated stuff.

Okay so it looks like we've been assuming that the only build materials available are wood and stone (depending on terrain). Could we build with turf instead?

If I'm in a map without surface stones, and I want to gather stones, do I need to set people to mining for it (and I assume that means I need one metal and one wood for a mining tool)?

Wolf ponders his building plans for his house. Its very small at this point, but at least it is something to start with. He knows he needs 3 more wood so gets his teeth ready and bits down more trees.

Is there going to be some sort of crafting system for making things to sell to caravans to get metal? Or are we just trading food and raw materials at this point?

Also, will migrants show up with equipment of their own sometimes?

And for things that don't need tools in DF, like bonecarving or stonecarving, do we need to set up buildings as workshops (maybe just generic ones)?

Which would mean a building would need a W tile in it to show that it's a workshop, and it can't be used for a granary or dwelling.

Or are we ignoring crafting and just trading for finished goods?

You get metals randomly by creating a "mine". This is like an outdoor building which goes underground - no DF-style, i'm afraid! You then generate on and off, once in a while.
I've worked out an idea... First you build an empty house, then set it to be a carpenters (or masons, or metalsmiths) workshop. Then a villager is set to be a carpenter, and players can pull anything out of it for one log/rock/metal. A cabinet. A chair. A table. a statue of a dog with one eye - whatever the player wants.

Migrants will show up like peasants in DF, nothing on them.

Trade post = Caravans, eventually. I think I answered everything else above.


I'm currently writing up a "rulebook" for MyWorld: Kingdoms which will be on an exterior site. I'll release it soon, maybe with the next update
