A game-music question.
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:31:15 am »

Do any of you play game music in the background of tasks, or is it just me?

Spoiler: example (click to show/hide)

This is about the concept of playing game music not the games.

The only game music I've ever liked enough that I might listen to it outside the game is the theme music of Morrowind (also one or two other songs from the soundtrack). I DON'T actually listen to them outside  the games, but, you know, I might.

Not really. Most game music bores or annoys me. That said, I have about 400 tracks from OC Remix on my usual playlist.

Really?  I listen to game music all the time--but mostly from Eternal Sonata, Shadow of the Colossus, and Lost Odyssey right now.  I also like the Final Fantasy piano collections.

I love game music. I have a bunch of Castlevania music and I'm working on getting more Touhou music.

Sometimes, but then I go through phases of liking to work with music to working without.

I always have game music pumping through or directly into my head.

I have a playlist of over 600 tracks on my media player and a entire bookmark tab full of music.

Sometimes I play the DF themes if I'm going to do a bunch of work.

Actually anything with a nice looping track works well.

Speaking of nice looping tracks, SID music (as in Commodore 64) was generally meant to loop very, very, very well.

When I say "well", I don't mean "seamlessly", but more in the sense that you listen to the same three-minute tune for 50 minutes and don't notice. In that sense, I like listening to it when I'm working on stuff, especially since there (obviously) aren't any vocals or anything else particularly distracting about it.

Of course, that only works if you actually like the way the SID sounds. If you do, the High-Voltage SID Collection is online and has basically every single SID track known to mankind.

Say what you want about the game itself, the Orchestral pieces in WoW are a real treat to listen to.

Also, this might just be my own nostalgia talking here, but I still get warm memories of the music in Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment
