Bioshock 2 multiplayer
« on: February 09, 2010, 06:49:19 pm »

Its release day here in the UK and I'm sat here happily kicking ass in mulltiplayer. Anyone got any thoughts on the game's multiplayer?

From what i've played of it, it's actually very good. You start out with weapons that can really hurt players who are of a higher rank. These weapons are the shotgun and the pistol. The shotgun can kill with a quick shoot melee that halo players will be familiar with while the pistol is quite good for sitting back and staying out of the fray when needed.

It also starts you off with a few powers, namely electro bolt, incinerate and winter blast. Electro Bolt is invaluable for taking down turrets which belong to the enemy (More on that later) and when used in combat it actually disorients and stuns them for a second. The incinerate power is invaluable for killing your enemys if you get the drop on them because the damage over time means that you can do a decent amount of damage over a distance.

The winterblast is a power that again is useful for taking out turrets but also slows down players who get hit by it. An interesting effect I found when running away holding the little sister was that they fired a winter blast after me and hit the door that was nearly closed, which froze for a second and gave me time to get to my teammates. Apparently it has applications I didn't know about :P

The other cool thing this game lets you do is hack turrets and set traps on vending machines. The turrets are useless if unsupported but are awesome if you stay near them and the vending machines will never kill a careful player, but its funny when it happens.

So, has anyone played it, thoughts?

You know, I was interested in the MP aspect, but the moment I saw it used games for windows and matchmaking... I used my 50 bucks on pizza and booze.

You're missing nothing, it is horribly unbalanced shit. The high level players (you level up in multiplayer) will always win over lower because of better weapons and plasmids

I heard you play as a Big Daddy in this one?  Are you the Big Daddy the whole game or just for portions?  I can't see how a game that was popular for being pretty scary in parts could ever be scary when you're a huge killing machine.

Yes, the main character is prototype Big Daddy Delta...and it still manages to be tense in parts, in small part due to trying to protect your little sisters from splicers, and the addition of bigger badder foes. It was missing a little something and seemed short to me but it's still pretty good.

Really? I managed to beat a eank 12 when I was rank one every time thanks to incinerate and careful shooting.

Because you look at the price tag and figure booze and pizza is the better choice?

If i'm correct, I think I actually agree with you :P

Mostly because I don't like matchmaking, games for windows, and paying use your xbox online.

Course, if you price check it all, pizza and booze is more entertainment for less.  :D

Plus I'm a PC-gaming-tard.  :-*

Im only on the third level or so, so i dunno about later in the game... But so far yeah you're a big daddy. But nothing like the big daddys from the first game because you're a prototype. It plays exactly the same as the first game really.

Kinda dissapointing. It wouldve been alot more interesting if you were a giant diving suit wearing grock, but oh well. :(

Oh, didn't see that post.

You get a section of the game where you play as another character, but it'd be spoilerific if I told you and its rather short.

Quite trippy too.

I de-equiped all my melee tonics, turned the difficulty up to hard and grabbed my sawn off double barrel drum magged shotgun. I then proceeded to pistol whip a bruiser to death without taking damage. Turns out that a mini boss with a crippling vulnerability to being circle strafed makes things rather anti climactic.

So far, the only scary bits are Eleanor's messages suddenly taking up the entire screen in a firefight, accidentally locking myself and a Big Sister in a 3x3 meter room and a well placed(and most likely non-scripted) ambush by an Alpha. All of the "corpses" that aren't really dead and picking up a piece of loot on the far side of an "empty" room that is very obviously a hostile choke point are completely stale this time around, especially with that camera able to tell you exactly what each body is and with a little practice, track a stealthed houdini.

"Defending" the little sisters consists of mining the hell out of her with trap rivets/spears and waiting.

Also, drill specialist, drill damage, drill vampire, sports boost, armored shell, some research and all of the "something touches you, nasty things happen to them" make a nearly unstoppable combo.

Fighting alongside
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
makes me feel inadequate. She punched a full health Alpha in his face and instagibbed it. I can't do that even against a frozen+shocked one with the drill charge and all related upgrades.
