Why don't you send it in for a refund or replacement?

While it's technically still illegal, there are ways to acquire the game surreptitiously over the internet.  I won't go into them, but you probably know what I'm talking about.  I see no moral problems with doing it since you have the key and paid for the game.  The developers/publishers might think otherwise, of course.

But yeah, I'd just go with sending it in for a replacement, or buying a new copy if you really love the game.

You can torrent it, just remember not to post links to warez here.

I heard once of a magical land just beyond this interwebs.  Of a bay, in particular.  The pirates float along freely, exchanging secrets.  They whisper into each ear secrets.  Secret maps, in fact!  Maps to the treasures and wonders of the modern world.

p.s. It's not illegal to download a program that you own.  Much like it isn't illegal to copy a disk you've bought as a backup.  Once you purchase a game or movie, you're licensing it.  That license is valid until you or they terminate the agreement printed in that wee text in the manual.

Not really. You also -own- your copy, not just the license. Having a license don't entitle you the right to copy or take other people's copies of it. Which is bullshit, imo, but yeah. Better not degenerate this into yet another warez/piracy argument. I'm sure Moron might pop in soon.

Honestly, im just sick of re-buying software for the third time because the disk exploded.

I literally did that with warcraft 3.

That system is called "back up your CDs yourself, or use Steam".

Don't do this.   People have already suggested torrenting, but trying to be 'cute' about telling him where to get it is just trying to skirt the rules Toady's laid out.

back up your CDs yourself

It's shocking how many eula's make this illegal you know. I don't think it's ever been challenged, or ever likely to be but it's still technically illegal. Of course some countries that makes the eula itself illegal.

This reminds me of this cute little comic, where a cuneiform tablet  is talking to the USB stick about how no data storage medium can last forever, and all the modern devices are like "NOOOOOoooo, you are lying!"

But even the harddisk knows it's true, because nobody is using rocks to keep notes anymore.

Your data is doooooomed....  oooOOOOoooo..... dooooooomed!

But there are still cave paintings of buffalo and whatnot. Noone uses the medium any more, but it still lasts a pretty long time. :P
