Should I try again?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:31:34 pm »

So my last attempt at a PnP game tanked due to lack of interest and great deal of hate i got from anonymous folks.

The question is: should I bother making another?

If you're asking yourself if you should work on it.. chances are that you don't have the drive to do it. So, probably not. If you're asking, "should I stop working on it".. then that's a question that's more difficult to answer. External motivation is not good.

I would agree with Muz as far as motivation. However, I would suggest you do program something, even if it is not a game. In your thread from the other day, you said you were "incompetent with code," and the more programming you do, the more you learn what to avoid. It is like when playing Dwarf Fortress and your fort floods with magma: by analyzing what went wrong, your next attempt may be more successful.

So.

I think you should program too.

Perhaps i should mention that I'm not talking about the computer game thing from that thread I locked, I'm speaking of the Sci-fi game i was making before.  Programming has nothing to do with this thread.

And none of the hate mail or insults came from anyone on this site.

Hate mail?
What is this! I wish to see. Why would someone say something like that?

Yes.

I didn't keep it.

Most were quite... offensive. Others just stupid. But it gets depressing after awhile.

Do it. Again. Not only for yourself, but for people eager to try out new RPG systems.

And to spite the haters.

Listen, think about it this way: many horrible RPGs were already made. If a barely coherent jerk-off like Byron Hall managed to somehow scrounge up enough motor capability to write something similar to an RPG, the possibilities available to YOU, a man of full reasoning capabilities, are endless.

I could post what I had, if anyone wants to wade through it. I could use some honest opinions on what I've done.
