How exactly did I get hit? I'm using a bow, the whole point of that is to be far away from the battle. Am I just walking up to dudes and shooting them?

I assume he roamed over and attacked you.

If you want to be nitpicky, bows were never meant for accuracy either. They were invented to be used in large groups to strike fear in the hearts of the enemy.

It's not about what's realistic, it's about what's fun. Creating a weapon with limited ammunition that almost always does no damage unless you have extremely good ammunition that also misses a lot, even more so when you don't dedicate valuable skill points to this almost entirely useless skill, does not make for a fun game.
I drop my bow and ammunition and equip my iron longsword.

Bows are a guaranteed hit on any unshielded person, Cheddarius. They are not underpowered.

Also, yeah, Archangel is kinda bleeding a lot.

Bows are accurate but have godawful damage. As everyone is shielded nowadays, bows are pretty pointless. Other people regularly hit for 12 or so damage, when they hit, which is maybe half the time or more. If I get incredibly lucky, I can hope to reach the dizzying heights of 2 damage. A weapon may not hit all the time, but it hits often enough to be far, far more powerful than a bow could ever hope to be.
