Curse you.
Curse you all.
For making me addicted.

I was tired of Nethack, but this game dragged me in completely.

Oh btw what do the books do?
Seems like you can't cast, but after reading the book several times it disappears.
Well you get a god to pray to, but does it do anything else?

I think it was F5 to show some "missions". It was just a path you could follow. The training ,or newbie one, or whatever also gives you many of the tools needed for what it asks you to do. But after you do everything, you are on your own. there is no real winning.

Is LIVAN the one with more dungeon levels? If so, go for it.

Book's can raise stats like Wis or Int.

I just can't get behind a game that punishes you for using better equipment.

It just show You that even with the best stats and staff you still can die if you're not careful enough. Try use more "U"...
sometimes it's the only way to survive

No, it just shows you that the game actively comes up with ways to screw you over, as opposed to Nethack that is wholly impassive to you and allows you to die on your own.  Spawning dragons on top of you because you picked up a good set of armor is not a fun game mechanic.

Actually it is more then possible to beat IVAN consistantly

It is just that the game is MADE of exploits that make Nethack seem fair.

It is also full of nonsense pitfalls... For example if you wear a vest that increases your HP and go to another floor... The enemies difficulty will spike to unreasonable levels.

If the build you are playing is bugged.

She also won Torchlight in less than a week
Torchlight's main storyline is 6 hours long.
That doesn't mean anything.

Only if you consider the "advanced adventures" quest a quest. Also, you can win IVAN if you consider beating that evil frog god thing winning. There's just nothing left to do after you beat him.

She also won Torchlight in less than a week
Torchlight's main storyline is 6 hours long, plus 20 hours of loading time.

Fixed :P Anyway, IVAN's is about as long too, assuming you survive.

If the build you are playing is bugged.

Nope, it is all calculated.

Basically a combination of wishes, Scitalk, gods, and other exploits. I can write them out in full if you wish.

In fact there are ways to fool the game into thinking you have absolutely no equipment so enemies who spawn are much weaker.

Ohh what was that? Whips are indestructable?

Honestly it is possibly the most infuriating aspect of the game...

The most dangerous enemy... the "Your just dead" enemy can be defeated by Fire Resistance.

I think I've griped about the wizard I ran into in UT4, right?  Saw me through invisibility, and bombarded me with death-fireballs and all sorts of overkill through walls, from like across my screen and such.

I was wizard moding at the time, but even then I don't think I managed to kill him - was just able to resist death infinitely and such.  Good thing, 'cuz it came for me every turn.

Also, on another wiz-mode game, I got me some levitation and flew around the overworld, and discovered that it was huuuuuuuge.  There are multiple screens in all four cardinal directions of distance from Attnam's island, and I found ice caps and stuff, so I'm guessing all of it was actually going to be used at some point.  I mean, the map is generated anew with each playrhrough, right?  And if you never got off Attnam's island, why make the generator also create ice caps?

So I started dreaming of how killing Elpuri got me freedom to explore other cities and whatnot across the seas.  That would have been really cool.  Like... Silva, I think, has fluff saying she's got a magic tree in some distant city, right?  I could've gone there and burned it down or something.

It's too bad.  The overworld I went to find was pretty much totally empty - no placeholder city icons or anything.  :(

...Wait, actually, I think I found some cave or something while flying around, but it didn't go anywhere.  I can't recall for certain, though.
