IVAN vs. LIVAN
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:27:18 pm »

So, some users have been suggesting LIVAN, and I was wondering what the differences between LIVAN and IVAN are, and which I should play. I want to start with whichever is easier, I suck at Roguelikes, although I find them great fun.

Considering IVAN is designed to be unbeatable, to the point the computer blatantly cheats, I don't think either one would be 'easier', though I've not heard of LIVAN.

I think, that LIVAN is just IVAN, but made slightly less ridiculously difficult. I could be wrong on that though. I've not played it myself. Peronally i kinda like how difficult IVAN is.

Go for LIVAN... more stuff, otherwise the same.

IVAN may be designed to be unbeatable but it is still possible with a LOT of pure luck. My best character died on the way back to the surface after killing Elpuri.

well the game is half finished but it's really fun to go back to it once in awhile and go thro some more violent deaths

I've never tried any of the variants, are there other good ones besides LIVAN?

The first time I played IVAN I didn't like it, I thought it was too silly at first. Once I got over that and discovered how fun it is I was hooked. The material system is pretty fun, nothing like having a banana flesh leg. It was a sad day when I realised there would be no more updates.

I just can't get behind a game that punishes you for using better equipment.

Well, she didn't win it, she just got to that giant frog boss or something and ran out of things to do. It was the last version they worked on, before scrapping it. She said that she summoned lots of angels and they killed. She also won Torchlight in less than a week. And Unreal World after half a month.

Dammit, she powergames these games without even trying.

She won Unreal World? what is next, she wins Dwarf Fortress? Getting bored is different from winning.
