THOSE KEY THINGS from THAT MARIO GAME. The SECOND ONE.

They were INSIDIOUSLY ALARMING. In addition, to being CHEAPASS.

I believe that as a CHILD that was SCARY.

Do you mean this?

Anyone ever play that one flash game, which was an adventure set in this insanely creepy mansion? It had a really weird sounding name, but I just can't remember it!

You don't happen to mean 5 days a stranger? Not quite a flash game, but it had a strange name.

No, it wasn't 5 Days. It was definitely a Flash Game, I think it ended with -goria. NOT phantasmagoria.

The gazelle thingies in Redneck Rampage Rides Again. It was my first game, and it scared the hell out of me.  In fact, pretty much anything in that game gave me a jump.

Oh, and your first tiger in Lara Croft III (or is that II?). It made me jump, but it was quite funny once you figured out how easy it was to kill.

If you go up to someone and beat the hell out of them with thread, you not only defeat them, you shame them and their entire family for generations to come (providing that there are any survivors).
Various mouths were involved, and a soda can and a penny I think.

This, they terrified me.

I also used to be afraid of Cliff racers. Made playing Morrowind... difficult to say the least.

The sound of a person activating stealth in World of Warcraft has become so ingrained in my psyche that I automatically go into red-alert when I hear it.  I heard a very similar sound in Jedi Academy once and immediately pulled out my lightsabers and started looking around frantically.  It took me a few seconds to realize what I was doing, and a few more seconds to realize why I had done it, it was so reflexive.

The sound of an alien growling in AVP3 has a lesser effect, my spine tingles and my pinky finger twitches as I get ready to sprint away for a better angle of attack.

Another one:  The scene with the yeti from King's Quest V.  Getting eaten by the Abominable Snowman is a terrifying idea at age 6.

The zombies and skeletons in Daggerfall.  They could and did appear at level 1, but could easily kick your ass way into the game.  More importantly, they screamed this inappropriately loud, cold bloody murder scream of the undead, that practically blew out my computer speakers and could wake up my parents if I didn't pay attention to my volume controls.

I'm also freaked out by the Tails Doll from Sonic R. That creepy song plays every time you play it, and the tails doll just looks creepy. especially that strange picture of it just standing there on a tile floor...

Then I know you've seen these pictures.  I'm sure you have.

Anyone ever heard of Star Wars Droid works?

It was all fine and dandy until you reached the levels with the evil robot trying to kick your ass, that robot scared me so much I never played Droid works again. I even had nightmares of that robot, what was Lucasarts trying to do? Make a generation of children afraid of evil robots?

Oh no...

The zombies in Thief: The Dark Project.  First M rated game I was allowed to play as a kid...got to the mine level, and was jumping around trying to get on a ledge when I accidentally stepped on one of the corpses, and about pissed my pants when it screamed and got up to chase me.

This. First time i went into the mines and had a corpse rise I got so freaked out I had to turn off the computer and go to another room. When through the mines(by running and not looking back) and into factory/prison level I heard the constant moaning(I didn't know it was supposed to be the prisoners) and was sure that the zombies were going to follow me up there.

Speaking of Sonic CD, I never did get past that mechanical level, with the falling rocks and the giant vertical tunnel + eggman's machine as the boss.
