If I understand correctly, the proposal was not about changing 7 to 14, but to make the rock layers have depth, so you will be able to have tiles like this:

1/7 rock, 0/6 water == regular floor tile:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

3/7 rock, 2/4 water == brook:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

0/7 rock == channel.

But I think it's not a good idea. For example: will a dwarf be able to walk a 6/7 rock tile if there is rock above? and if no rock above?

What I think should be implemented some day is discarding liquid-level and moving to creatures that take multiply tiles in all directions (say, a dwarf of 4x4x5 size and a giant of 8x8x16). But this would require major rewriting and apparently will have to wait till version 5 or so :-)

The main problem I have with increasing the range of fluid depth is that we wouldn't be able to display the fluid depth as a tile if it's more than one digit.

I foresee hilarity when I look at the screen and wonder what all the blue cows are doing there.  :D

But sand flows? Snow drifts? Oooh. I want.

I usually think "camel/dromedary/bactrian" when I see a "C".

Do cows/bulls even occur naturally in any biomes at all?
