Imperialism if you like strategy games.

I know people who don't play any other games. It's not too hard to pick up either, and is one of those games that you start playing at 10 PM, then realize that it's dawn.

Oh, and get the Avernum games. They're not free, but the demos are bigger than most freeware RPGs. I bought the first three set, but I still haven't gotten past the demo part of Avernum 3.

Did anyone mention Slavehack? There's that huge thread on it if you haven't noticed.

Oh, god, Daggerfall? Really? I loved this game when it was first released (bugs and all), but I tried playing it again a few months ago, and that was a shocker. It's just too hard to return to something like that. (OK, so we're still playing an ASCII game here, so who knows?)

X-Com: UFO Defense is different. It's still a LOT of fun to play. And it's in the top two games of all-time as far as I'm concerned. Cheap now, too.

But right now, I'm playing UnReal World, a survival game set in Iron Age Finland. You can play the demo for quite awhile for free, but the lowest level of registration is only $3. It's really a remarkable game, with dedicated fans and still being improved. Check it out.
