I'd just like to pop in here for a sec to deliver a piece of info that may be relevant to your latest BSOD issues.

A couple of weeks ago, Windows XP received an automatic update that caused endless BSOD reboots for many users. Uninstalling the offending update stops the problem occuring. However, this very serious mistake has most likely been fixed by now (though I haven't heard anything).

If you think this might apply to you, instructions on uninstalling the KB977165 update can be found in the link above. :)

Good luck solving your heat issues, I know what it's like...

He's running Vista, not XP, so that can't be it.

Yeah, what he said.

Thanks for the attempt at helping though  :)

The update wasn't a mistake. The BSODs were being caused by a certain rootkit that was on the affected systems. Naturally, Microsoft does not test for compatibility with viruses.

OK, my brother (Also a DF player) and I cracked open the computer and blew out all the dust in the fans and GPU and power supply with compressed air. After piecing it back together, PCWizard says the temperature now dances around 90C flat in the GPU and 33C on the processors. I tested it on TF2, and it was stable for MUCH longer, but eventually fell back into that bad spiral, once the temperature climbed back up to 120 C.

Not to sound rude, but did you check to see if the dust was back? Maybe your fans sucked up more.

It wouldn't accumulate that much dust in the space of one day, I shouldn't think. Not unless, like, they didn't brush the dust out of the case and just let it sit inside... but give them a little credit. :)

Huh, I could've sworn I read he was on XP... I must've been overtired when I read that yesterday. x_x

No, we cleaned out the dust. It was like surgery when it came to the main fan, since it was in all the little slats under the actual fan. The dust got all over my bed, and I had to wash it (Only to have it not dry completely x___x)

In science, the rule is anomalies are not science. If it can't be replicated, it's not science. I tested the game again for much, MUCH longer, and it worked fine. The temperature now idles at less than 170F , and when active peaks at 200-210 F. There have been no slowdowns since the one that was seemingly out of place last night. The temperature spike last night didn't occur again, and therefore is not science. I think the issue is resolved.

I'd like to thank everyone who posted here for their time helping a complete stranger with their computer problems.

Special thanks goes out to

Glad to hear it.  You may want to try another cpu temp program to verify PC Wizard's readings.  Tonight we ran into a situation where PC Wizard was reporting the temp incorrectly due to a freak bios issue.

Anyhow, I hope it all works for you.  Enjoy your dwarfy goodness!

C++ isn't like an environment or anything.. it compiles down to machine code. Technically java and python 'run' in c++ (probably)
