Seriously, what the hell? Why do you have to give me the third degree? Completely uncalled for.

First off, Volatar is right. I was blaming the trojans for the BSODs and Vista for letting the cycle continue after the nth time. Not to mention that the only other time I mentioned Vista was explaining the normal performance I have. Mind you, I never overclock my system, and the most it will ever begin to heat up is when I'm playing Fallout 3. And again, nothing from what I know has changed in resource usage in the past two weeks. In fact, if I open up the task manager, it tells me that it's using the exact same amount of resources as it always has been.

I use a desktop, by the way.

sry man, but you should get elementary knowledge about computer you are using, imho.

just make fresh install of windows, if you feel that something is not right.
do not blame game.

btw, DF can make more heat than fallout 3 imho.

that proves nothing. f'ed up registry may not be visible in ..task manager.
not to say that you are not able to see real problems in task manager at all(as viruses, services, you won't see NOTHING serious if you are infected).

btw, never EVER use registry cleaners - it is begging for problems.

I got trojans
hint - antiviruses are NOT good idea to GET RID of VIRUSES.
strange?
antiviruses are good for DETERMINING what causes problem.
after that you may need to FIND SPECIFIC ways of getting rid of SPECIFIC virus, especially, if it is something serious.
hint 2 - main problem with windowses is their "system restore" option.
every threat stored there may be...restored.
good idea - turn off system restore service BEFORE attempting to HEAL system with external software.
it may sound strange, skip that if you do not know what to do..

This sounds like overheating to me.
..or his machine got bios reset and lost stable bus/cpu settings, or sth.
maybe loosen RAM, gfx card, whatever.
even stupid clogged fans, dying power supply, etc. etc..

Quote
it will run smooth as giant cave spider silk, but after a few minutes, it will begin to chug. BIG TIME.
turn off speedstep in bios then, check cpu temp there BEFORE doing that.

------------
another idea - use hijackthis and post your log(..file :) ).

and finally - Vista is worst shit available, even win7 is better, not to mention good ol' xp(well, no dx10, tho).

sorry for ridiculous english, i am not native speaker(uh, writer).

What do you mean? I use CCcleaner and I haven't had any issues relating to that.

cccleaner is not affecting deeper parts of registry, i assume, some software can.
let's skip that point, all i wanted to say is that fiddling with registry without control may lead to problems.

lets wait for author's answer.

I don't go prancing through the registry without a damn good reason, and I'm always guided by a friend of mine who is a computer programmer and knows about this kind of crap. He has helped me before with computer problems in the past.
If I knew how to make a fresh install of windows, I would do it, but it's one of those fuck the world sort of deals. All my personal files are on a separate drive, so I have no real cause for alarm if anything catastrophic happens. Still, I don't like the thought of reinstalling the OS. My mind thinks of it as the equivalent to opening the Star Fissure in Riven.

My mind thinks of it as the equivalent to opening the Star Fissure in Riven.

Well, don't think of it that way.  It's more like flushing the toilet so that it'll be relatively clean again for a while.

I cut the quote down to that specific instance for the direct contradiction aspect.
That's not the only place he blamed Vista.

And clearly, no, it's not perfect, but it doesn't have any major problems in terms of system speed or stability anymore.

Why do you have such a giant chip on your shoulder about Vista?  Even Microsoft thinks it sucks.

Hmmmm... I think that getting some info on your system may help us. You could be having some OpenGL problems for example.

Go to start -> run and type "dxdiag". Press "save all information" at the bottom, save the file to your desktop, open it, copy-paste its contents into spoiler tags, and post. This will give us useful information on your system, and information on your drivers.

Also, xoen, capitalization is your friend. Don't be afraid of it. (also, read over your own post before posting - your grammar could use a little help  ;) )

...also, I had to restrain myself from starting a flamewar over the Vista thing. This thread is about helping Lost Requiem with his problem, not about how much Vista sucks. Do not try and start a flamewar in his thread. Doing so would be bad for your health, and bad for the purpose of the thread.

Didn't read the whole thread.

How much RAM do you have? Are you sure you are not running out of free memory?
Because if it happens and your system starts using swap file, things slow down like hell.

I have right to say my opinion. It is not flame, just statement.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't directed at you (as you didn't say much about vista) but at the thread as a whole.

ehhh dude, dude.
If my post was offensive or too messy to understand, just report it to moderator, please.
My post was about knowledge, not grammaR, imho. I am not at school.
If I had found your post offensive, I would have reported it. However, doing so would have been rather idiotic of me, as no one should be offended by bad grammar.  :D Also, moderators are not there to fix your grammar, only to enforce the rules.
I was just trying to be helpful. I have found that grammar severely impacts the amount of people that will bother to read your posts. If you care to have others listen to what you say than you should use good grammar. If you don't, then go ahead.

Calm down everyone and return to your seats before people have to start dying.

I haven't experienced the strange lag as of late. Don't know why, but I'm glad it's not here for the time being. The bullshit of restarting the computer was getting very old after the first time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here's my specs, by the way.

          Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
             Memory: 2046MB RAM

Hmmm, same RAM ammount as me, yet only 2/3rds the processor of me, and yet you can run DF so well? Wow....

Page File: 2122MB used, 2205MB available

Well hello there. Told you dxdiag can be useful. Your page file is almost completely used up. That generall happens only after your RAM is used up.

I think you may have a memory problem dude :) press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, open task manager, go to the processes tab, click on the top of the memory column to sort by memory usage, and list all the processes over 100,000 K here for us.

Do you customarily run firefox in the background? If so, have you stopped doing so? Many versions of Firefox have a serious memory leak.

Another thing you may need to try is RAMtest, which boots itself and does a hardware test on your ram itself. Most mass-market computers use cheap ram sticks that have above-average failure rates, the (erratic) symptoms of which sometimes match yours.

Yes, I run Firefox. It and Dwarf FOrtress are the only programs running over 100K. I force shutdown Firefox since sometimes the cache doesn't always clear up, and I do this when it reaches around 250K. I once had it go over 750K, and I'm still trying to find out why Firefox has this huge issue.
