You dump a jar out into the basin. It doesn't look like blood. More like turpentine or something.

There's nothing else in the jar.

Oops, that was the armory where you got the helm and weapons and stuff. I forgot to draw it in. I'll add it in the next map update.

That and the room you just left with the jars are the only places you've explored that I need to add to the map.

It's been quite a while since you last looked out at the entrance to see what time it was. But you've slept once since you came in, and you're sore but not sleepy right now.

What's happening ... you're on Level 3, the one with the glowing blue faces and the SKELETON, DEFYING THE NATURAL ORDER, and the pit trap, and you're in a room east and north of the pit trap checking out these awesome jars.

Your hand is burned, your ankle hurts, and there's nothing stopping you from going upward. If you wanted to cross the pit to explore down on Level 4 you'd have to do the trick with setting off the pit trap and catching your rope and piton in the seam on the other side.

About the situation with the water monster: once when I led a party I made them to encounter an undefeatable water elemental. The fun thing is that he was friendly and attacked only when provoked. The monent they saw him they've spent all their spells on it, lost one teammate and retreated. It was funny.

You go back east along the main hall and pass by the weird hole in the wall just before you turn north. Then you go north past the glowy blue faces until you reach the pit where the skeleton fell in, and the stairs up.

You head up the stairs and go west, past the metal cylinder in the wall with the soldier embossed on it and the weird hole next to it. You head south to the shattered altar and room full of rubble, then east to the turtle fountain where all your sweet loot is.

You get the lantern, fill it with oil, tie an onion the lantern on your belt, and light it up. It burns merrily, giving off just as much smoke and light as the torches. It's pretty smoky oil. You extinguish your torch.

You don't see the ghost soldier. While you're here you drink a bunch of water and fill your dented canteen, and eat a bih chunk of snake meat. Yum-yums!

Pshaw. It's not going anywhere ever. We are stuck in here 'till the end of days. Examine the weird hole in the wall!
