You pour water on your burning hand, and it seems to help, but it still hurts so much you can't do anything with it. You hold your torch in your shield hand.

You decide not to investigate the black fountain with your face (outvoted).

You leave the pillar pool room and go back out into the hallway. The only way to go is south. You head south and stop just short of a hallway that runs east and west (a T intersection).

You stop because you see the most curious thing: a band of very pale people wearing strange woven-vine clothes and camel masks. There are four of them. Two carry torches, one carries a censer which is pouring sweet -smelling smoke into the area. They're tiptoeing along in exaggerated fashion, wide-eyed, trying to be very quiet. One of them sees you with his dilated eyes, and with a very serious expression shushes you and mimes a snake lying on the floor. He says some things in an unfamiliar language and they continue on to the west.

Follow them, try to speak to them in sign language and/or by pointing and stuff.

You follow them, tiptoeing just like they do. They mostly ignore you, except to give the occasional knowing look that they give each other. You try using sign language but they don't respond.

The incense smoke makes you lightheaded. You begin to actually see snakes like the ones in the snake fountain room. But they all seem to be sleeping. You tiptoe past them and go West with the other people.

As you continue down the hall it branches to the south, and that part of the hall looks like it collapsed at some point. You can still get through, but there is rubble on the floor and leaning against the walls.

At this point you stop seeing snakes. The other people relax and clap each other on the back, grinning and giggling quietly. They gather 'round the censer and breathe deeply of the smoke. One of them motions you closer.

They seem pleased that you're huddling around the censer too. They chat with each other very quietly. You still can't understand a word of their jibber-jabber.

The smoke from the incense is heady stuff up close. You feel very good about everything in general, very positive. Like you can see things no-one else can see; do things no-one else can do.

They open the censer and you see it's half-full of ashes with a bunch of little cones of incense sitting inside. They light a couple more cones of incense, close the censer, and move on to the west.

And the pale people are just cave adapted humans who haven't been exposed to the modern world?

It doesn't look like they've gotten very much sun, true. And they aren't carrying around bottles of Coca-Cola, that's for sure.

You follow them to the West. You're in more hallway, continuing West and also North - where it becomes a ramp going up. They hang around chattering quietly and pulling at their tongues. Your tongue does feel kind of weird.

It looks like they're going to head West soon.
