This is a copy/paste from my post on 1257 ad forum. Since I don't want to re-type it all.

I uploaded Othr's version of 1257 to my mega.co account because his version is vastly better than the newer version. The battles are way better as well. Also, I did it because the guys who took over his mod are shutting down 1257 SVN so there will never be a way to get his mod again.

Open spoiler if you want the link and read the long description of the mod :P

Tried out Prophecy of Pendor. I was liking it until it started throwing Snake Cultist and Noldor War Parties at me like crazy, really early on. The Noldor party was the one that finally made me quit out. Outnumbered 3 to 1, and they attacked so much faster than base troops it was like walking into a wall of arrows, and their Lord riding through my lines slicing down two or three guys every pass. I guess that's a reason to avoid fantasy mods in M&B; give someone an elf and they'll make them broken.

That and my graphics kept getting screwed up every 20 minutes or so. Sometimes I'd have to restart to clear it.

It's fun to have the Noldor on your side, though, and win against much larger forces, without doing 90% of it yourself.

Just ignore the Noldor for now. Trust me, once you get deep into the game they will be the only things that can fight your army. As for the snake cultists, I've found them to be one of the weaker groups. The worst they have are those horses with like, 5000 health and 200 armor (literally, they take ages to kill even with multiple couched lances) but you can just avoid the parties that have those. I find the game really takes off once you rev up the training skill on at least your character and start upgrading all your guys. Peasants will turn into armies in days and you will start storing the rare knight units in your castles and towns until you feel like putting them all into one party and nuking a faction.

And now I feel like playing Mount and blade for another hundred hours. Have any new good mods surfaced yet? I don't like anything with guns, the last time I played Warsword it was a buggy unfinished mess, already played Brytenwalda and phantasy. But I don't think I've played Floris. What makes Floris unique? Prophesy of Pendor has the knights and factions and other ridiculous amounts of custom content, Phantasy has magic, Brytenwalda has a massive world and all these different cultures.... What makes Floris one of the highest rated mods?

Also, I hope whoever made the shield bash mechanic bound to left clicking wile blocking gets their legs broken.

Nothing makes Floris unique. Quite the opposite, in fact, and it's designed that way. I recommend it.

Floris is good because its basically the good "vanilla+" stuff from other mods rolled into one big mod. And all of it is polished to a mirror quality shine.

Only bad thing is the "ha ha we removed the ability to retreat from battles so now when twelve stacks of hundreds of bandits gank you there is absolutely nothing you can do to not be raped lol"
FUCK mods that remove retreating. Assholes.

its for warband, its pretty much 1257ad (which is also warband) except Othr's is an earlier AND alternate version of it. Main reason I personally like it compared to the newer versions of 1257ad is because battles (the AI/formations) actually work properly. And that is pretty much what mount and blade is about.

You've gotta auto-resolve Noldor battles.
Not only will you win, you'll get hostages you can trade back for rep.

And that is the only reason to autoresolve at all.

I have 454 people in my army right now. 216 are Huscarls. I'm willing to bed that, would I have autoresolved against Graveth, 150 would have died.

Instead, 5 units total died or were knocked unconscious. None of them were Huscarls.

Also, 216 huscarls: Silverstag's recruitment system is pretty ridiculous; I can get a bunch of base recruits, train them up a level, disband them in the recruitment screen and upgrade them straight to Huscarls, though the whole process costs me about 1500 denars per unit, not that it matters since I own both Reyvadin and Dhirim and thus get over 50000 denars a week.

Also, Silverstag: Dhirim is now named Putnam City. I did this mostly to stick it to Harlaus's buttery ego. He is now known as Harlaus the Lame, since he is a vassal of Sanjar Khagan and I changed the landless title of the Khergits to "The Lame" instead of "Sir" because "Yaroglek Sir" looked dumb.

Speaking of which, Yaroglek and Ragnar are both lords of Hakim the Lame. This is slightly odd, as Hakim is subordinate to Sanjar.

All of them hate me. I wonder why? I just bash in their stupid grins whenever they show up and make sure to flaunt my right to rule in their face as I swiftly destroy their kingdoms over the course of two days with my combination of Artimenner and 200 huscarls.

What I'm saying is that Silverstag is sort of hard to start with, but once you get enough money and armor (and with the tournaments in this, oh hell yes you will) you can basically stomp everything.

Huscarls? Try Ravenstern rangers. Everything dies before it reaches you. It's beautiful.

I forgot to mention (or rather forgot entirely) the 41 Veteran Huscarls (basically Huscarl Level 2) and 1 Elite Huscarl (Huscarl Level 3)

In Pendor becoming friends with the Noldor is recommended as it opens to you some features and powerful items.

A very grindy method not involving auto resolve trick to do so :
From the start (as things get harder for the Noldor later due to their enemies getting bigger and bigger armies) go to Empire territory and follow the Noldor small patrols that usually go into that territory (don't get too close, Noldor hate everyone and will eradicate you if you get too close) , and when those Noldor patrols manage to catch an Empire lord or anything moving, join the battle to the Noldor side.

Even at your low level and with your few troops it's not a problem to face Empire lords, the Noldor are so overpowered that they will kill everyone by themselves.

But in the end of the battle, you'll gain reputation with them, repeat until you get positive (so the Noldor will not try to attack you anymore) then high enough reputation to get access to the Noldor stuff (that start in the Laria tavern)

I'd say that joining against the Noldor and auto resolving might be better. I don't think you get a relations penalty for joining a battle, and for every Noldor prisoner that you talk to and release you get some relations. Get enough prisoners and you get more relation than fighting alongside them. This of course stops working once the Noldor like you.

What's a good counter in early game against desert bandits? I keep getting TPKed by them since they are too fast for me to run away from.
