Which game? If it the original (Mount and Blade) then you can get the wonderful War of the Ring (or something like that), if it's Warband or With Fire and Sword you're out of luck.
Dammit, I got warband. Any other mod worth my attention?

I double recommend this, it's really good. Just one thing though: It's hard. Much harder than the base game. The units are stronger then they would be in the base game, plus the big enemies are mega stacks who could murder you even if they were made of looters and farmers (ok, maybe not so much, but you get the idea)

Not for you. I skipped you over because I haven't looked into base M&B mods in absolutely ages. What I can recommend you to do is to get Warband, but that's... less than helpful... :P

Non-Warband Mods that come to mind:
 The Last Days (Lotr mod)
 Wedding Dance
Warband mods:
 Sword of Damocles
 Prophesy of Pendor
 Brytenwalda
 Mount & Musket (For MP)
I think SoD and PoP have earlier versions for vanilla M&B, though.

SoD has the full version in M&B, They're porting it to Warband currently, Also Southern Realms is a really good mod its completed but a lot of side quests are not put in.

1866 for non-warband is also fun.  I like M&B in the Old West with guns!

Got this on steam sales. Which mods should I check? And is there any LoTR based mods? From what I have played, it'd be awesome to command a rohirrim charge here
Well, there's The Last Days, a LotR mod for the original Mount & Blade. Mentioned above, but I tend to forget about new pages when I click the "new" button :P

Nice.

Best of all, it looks like another one set in the medieval period; I'm not a huge fan of the whole "rifles and muskets" thing of M&B:Napoleonic.

Hope they incorporate some of the ideas from that diplomacy mod...

If you have Warband go try "Light&Darkness - Heroes of Calradia" , it's brillant.
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,240713.0.html

That's the 1st mod i played on Warband that actively implemented a story, that's rather refreshing.
The plot turns around the neutral town of Xendar (that has been re-enabled as the town disappeared during the original M&B development) and develop from there.
Lots of dodgy english translation though, but nothing that break the gameplay and the storyline.

There are some nice features along having a story, by example you can play some blackjack in tavern, or get into some horse racing contest too if you ask the correct guy and give him the correct answer, and many more.

One of the finest Warband mod.

Solid and Shade

It's a necromancer mod and it's great.

Try it.

Try it NOW. The Blood Fountain commands you.
