Which is why you play a cavalry archer.  Then you only have to go back to your baggage every 5 minutes.

I can go through 8 arrows pretty quickly. I imagine 8 javelins would only deplete that much quicker.

Exactly my point.

Oh whoops, I thought you said 'cavalry javelineer' for some reason.

I find foot fun when you have a spear, javelins, sword, (board) shield.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

I much prefer a jousting pole. So much fun seeing their lord fly off their horse at the beginning. Then the rest of them go, and the only casualties I have are my immortal friends.

I couldn't find an answer anywhere, so I figured I'd post here. How the hell does experience work for non hero followers?

I assume they get points for killing anything, but does everyone who participated in the fight get some at the end? What about when you are returned to the overhead map, who gets experience there?

Also, how is it shared?

Different question. If a sword is 1.5 hands (1 handed or two handed) how can you tell how much damage it does in one handed mode?

I've been playing Native expansion. Took over Curaw and the castle nearby and now I am running a small kingdom.

You can turn on the damage readout in the options menu, IIRC.

As for experience, the total battle experience is shared among the entire group, but individual units can earn their own by getting in on the action and killing/KO-ing foes.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

Do top teir units steal experience? Also, is it saved between fights? So say I have a group of 10 horsemen, and it costs 100 exp to level one of them, but their split is only 50. Next fight their split is 75, does one level then?

Also, is it shared between every troop or every troop type?

I said and meant Javelineer. You just need a two handed axe and 3 bags of javelins. You will 1 hit murder anything you see.

That works until you get shot in the face by arrows.

I prefer playing with full self damage. A shield is essential.

I planned on doing it sooner or later.  When I circle back to Mount&Blade anyways.

Top Tier: No clue, probably?
Exp is saved between fights.
Exp is also saved between save/load.  (At least the number of guys getting converted.)  But, it doesn't save the exp for non-followers in the +25 slot.  (If your mod allows you to hold more different types of troops.)

Distribution of block exp is partitioned per unit.  (Like from completing quests.)
Individually, if your units kill/ko enemies themselves, they get the exp.

For leveling, purposes...
Example 1: If you got 10 horsemen and 90 other units.  You get 1100 block exp. 11 exp per unit.
10 Horsemen in total get 110 exp.
If they need 100 exp to level, 1 horsemen can then be leveled.

Example 2: You have 10 horsemen, one of them goes wild and kicks ass, taking down like 30 guys, while the other 9 get ko-ed early in the fight.   If the horseman got 50 exp per guy he takes down, he get a total of 1500 exp.
If they need 100 exp to level, all 10 horsemen can then be leveled, despite only 1 of them doing the asskicking.  The extra 500 exp is lost to the abyss.
