Banner Lard? Sounds like King Harlaus to me.

Mount and Blade: Bannerlord info
« Reply #3016 on: September 28, 2013, 10:41:06 am »

Okay, looks like Taleworlds have decided to give us a little info regarding Bannerlord.

http://www2.taleworlds.com/

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/09/28/oh-jeez-oh-man-mount-and-blade-ii-looks-fantastic/

I have yet to read it myself, just saw it and wanted to share with you guys.

EDIT: Okay, looks like it's less of an info update and more of a 'look at what we've been working on' sort of thing. They did put up a little tidbit for flavor, which might be hinting at gameplay elements.
Quote
The once-mighty Calradic Empire is in a state of decline. Warlike tribes have seized swaths of its territory. Client kingdoms have declared their independence. The Emperor has died without leaving an heir, leaving three jealous factions to scramble for power. Mercenary companies, bandit lords and nomads hover on the sidelines like vultures waiting for a meal.

A hero who can master the art of single combat, of leading armies in battle, of plotting ambushes and raids, and of exploiting the rivalries of noble houses and tribal clans may be able to unite this Empire -- or, alternately, to deal it the final blow that sends it crashing down. Will Calradia experience one final sunset of imperial glory, or slip into a night of chaos before a new age dawns?
"Plotting ambushes" seems to be a new thing, unless they just mean 'wait in a spot then chase the guy as they come by.' "Three factions scramble for power" seems to imply that instead of the 5 major factions from M&B (6 including the new one in Warband) we will instead have just three (plus mercenary companies, which weren't really a thing).

As for the actual screenshots, one thing that I immediately noticed was independent head movement from the torso, so the 'look around' feature from Warband might not be so dumb in regards to multiplayer. The scenes overall also appear to be darker.

I'm curious to see what more complete stuff will look like, or if we can expect these models (or the implied animations) are final.

Anyways, the most important thing is that they've fed us something for the first time since exactly one year ago.

I'm actually slightly pleased that the game doesn't have state-of-the-art AAA graphics. It probably means they spent more of their money elsewhere, in the parts that made M&B great.

Mercenary Bands sounds interesting, it's like official Freelancer but better.

Yeah, I think it would be awesome if there were NPC's that are basically the same kind of people as the player character. They wander around and have their own motivations, forming 'warbands' much like the PC would or becoming a mercenary or liege to a lord/king. You could meet them on the field of battle as foes one day, and weeks/months later be under the same banner together.

Hmmm.

As long as they don't begin with 50+ mid to elite-tier units with enough pathfinding and champion horses to run the player down five times over.

****ing Singalians.

I'm all for their making it so that starting one's own warband requires a reasonable amount of resources and renown, meaning that the most practical means of doing would be by enlisting with an NPC mercenary corps. or a lord's army.

Historically speaking, I'm not sure the latter would be very prudent if you didn't possess a high degree of skill prior...

I hope there will be a lot more to do with the town/village/lords quests-jobs instead of only a few selection.

Additionally, something that really annoyed me with Warband native is the companions, they all have a background story they're telling you at some points of the map , and what they tell you hints at there's something to do, something to be done, etc...

But there's in fact nothing, it's like the devs planned companions specific quests, left the texts in, but actually scrapped the quests/missions related to those.

I sincerely hope the companions in M&B2 will then be more worked on instead of just being "permanent" canon fodder, there was a lot of potential with them in Warband that never followed up.
Same with the town people that you can interact with, in Warband those interactions are very limited, making walking in town/village nearly useless as after a time you'll only use the town/village menu instead of actually walking in.

I hope they will make the player feel a bit more uninvolved in the campaign "story" too, that's probably why Light&Darkness is my favorite Warband mod, as it involves you a lot more in the events unfolding than just a text or two popping up, while keeping the battle-siege gameplay of Warband intact.

The visual upgrade, i don't care honestly, i always made the choice to move to DX7 display in order to have larger battlesize without the performance issues, and enjoy it like this anyways, so more poly here or there, not what i'm looking for.

Calradic Emperor dies and all factions fight for power. Isn't that Mount and Blade and Warband as well? Doesn't look like the story has changed and the gameplay changes don't seem huge either. Graphical improvements aren't blowing my mind. I will still probably get the game though, I'm sure there will be some good mods.

Well, 3 years for only 12 pictures ?
they said "news soon" 12 months ago, for what, just 12 pictures ? What a joke.

Shhhh, hush now, my sweet little mussel shatner.

Let them take their pretty time, and produce something that doth bring pleasure unto to their current playerbase. I would rather three men living in their mothers' basements take years to cogitate a good, worthwhile experience, than a bunch of corporate yuppie stormtrooper gametrons churn CoD: Medieval.

Sure. I don't mind waiting.

It's just that...well, no need to make an announcement for "only" 12 pictures.
For me it's just a "we haven't forgotten you, we are still alive and working hard for you" message. They could just have posted this message, and it would have had the same effect.

I feel like they haven't finished the game at all, and just give the few things they can. Not very reassuring...

Consider the content of Mount and Blade, and ask yourself whether or not there could be much to show, even if it were absolutely complete.

Also, they could be trying to avoid spoilers.

Or they suck.

Either way, they're going to have a hard time convincing to upgrade my graphics card and switch over, until Diplomacy and Pendor premier for the second game. :P

Hmmm.

It is doable. If you have the original Mount and Blade (i.e. not Warband), you can check out the Custom Settlements mod, which has an early version of just that, but sadly the mod maker stopped developing it.

Mods are amazing and all, although that doesn't mean the developers can just leave it out. For example Diplomacy Mod was literally the feature Warband never had. Although with increased focus on mercenary bands, I think there should be a reasonable price to hire them.  Either make them cheaper to hire or more powerful, because people rarely actually hire mercenaries in M&B:W.
