DF on a 42 inch LCD TV
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:32:11 am »

So, I was bored. Plugged an EeePC 1001HA into my Sony Bravia 42 inch (methinks) LCD TV. The results: rather epic.  :)

I can't believe I never thought of that.

I'll plug DF into my 46" tv this very night.

I wonder whether I'll be able to play with an entire 6x6 map on the screen without ever needing to scroll.

you probably won't, since tvs in general seem to have shit resolution. (unless they don't)

I have a 32" Tele which I often play games on. It gets a 1920x1080 resolution which is considerably larger than the 1440x900 my standard 19" monitor gets.

considerably more pixels, yes, but over a greater amount of space.

My 19'' has about 1650x1080, so it really isn't much different than that tv.

My experience has usually been that graphics look good, and text almost always reads like ****.

(PS-That is awesome none the less.)

It should be easily possible with any of the Tiny tilesets (4x4, 6x6, or 8x8 I think).

That's a ton of information on screen all at once.

DF at 1920x1080 is cool, but on a huge tv you're definitely not going to see the entire fortress at once unless you use a really small tile set, and then you'll probably not be able to distinguish what anything is. And yeah, you definitely won't be reading any text, especially if you use at small tile set. It won't be playable, I'm sure.

This is actually quite playable with a 24x24+ tileset, you could even push it with a 16x16 :P. And this is different to other screens, it's 1080p on a 42 inch screen. Pretty hawt.

Man, you guys are lucky.  My TV's a Proscan PoS, about 20 inches.  My monitor is bigger and vastly clearer than that thing.  Which is why I hooked my consoles to my monitor.

Yes, my family did that research before purchasing our new LCD screen.

Plasma is terrible for that reason alone, and I'm surprised it hasn't suffered horribly business-wise.
