werewolf game
« on: February 04, 2010, 04:41:26 am »

Got the ideas off here, thought it would be fun.

http://forums.explosm.net/showthread.php?t=61412

(it's the forum of cyanide and happiness a comic website if your wondering)

The set is a small country village being attacked by a werewolf. As one, he hides well between the rest of the country folk during the day, but at night he strikes to kill one of them. So the people unite, and in lack of better judgement they decide to kill one person per day, trying to catch the werewolf before he downs everyone. So, by the end of every day (which I'll be announcing) everyone will vote for who they want to kill.

So, the Rules are:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

that was all copy and paste but I'll be adding my own stuff now.
If a werewolf attacks you I will roll a dice,1,2,3 or 4 you become a werewolf 5 or 6 you die.
When you found out who the werewolf is you may PM me if you want to kill them. I will roll the dice. If it lands on a 1 or 2 you kill the were wolf, 3 or 4 you failed but escaped, 5 or 6 you got killed.

Okay we'll see how this goes. I have alot of school work so I may not update this every day or get someone else to do this.

Post on this topic if you want to play. Also PM what character you would prefer to be. 1st in best dressed.

It's been done, this belongs in the Mafia subforum, and we know these rules better than you do.

Aside from the special shit. Usually we get by with just Town and then a couple creeps. Furred or Suited.

The Girl - The girl knows who the werewolf is. Her goal is trying to convince everyone to kill him on the vote. The werewolf's first goal, of course, is finding out who she is.

This is a bad idea.

No, trust me. There's no reason anyone pro-town would lie about that role. It'd be suicide for the werewolf and a waste of the werewolf-ally's ability to vote. That role is a really, really bad idea.

Also, Hunter is a bad idea with one scum. A 1/players chance of an instant loss? No, thanks.

Listen to us. We've played enough games to know what works and what doesn't.

The Girl does not work.

Yes but everyone will be blaming everyone and trying to come up reason for people not to attack them.I might remove it. see how it goes.

Just to explain why won't work as you say. On day one the Girl will claim, because why would they not. To stand any chance of surviving the Werewolf must cause doubt by claiming as well. This means there is a 50% chance (actually higher see later) that the game is over, day one.

Assuming the werewolf survives it knows it will be lynched the next day and so must kill someone. There is only a 66% (1-4 in 6) chance of their targeted player becoming a werewolf. Of course with the hunter involved here too there is also a 1 in X (depending on the number of players) chance of dieing due to hunter as well.

This means that without a hunter there is only a 33% chance of the game lasting to night 2. With the hunter this is reduced further depending on the number of players.

This of course ignores one of your key rules which is the ability to PM once you know who the werewolf is. With this rule then after day one, and assuming the wolf survived every player can now pm you to attack the wolf each with at 33% chancing of dieing or killing the wolf. As you can imagine this reduces the odds of survival greatly and directly proportional to the number of players.

Adding a cultist into the mix allows another day one girl claim but doesn't actually change the odds because the girl will always pick the wolf and the wolf will pick someone then the cultist can either pick one of those two which doesn't increase the pool of potential wolves or pick someone at random.

The problem with these numbers is that I have assumed random voting, however in reality if the girl claims first then the wolf is the first accused, and if the wolf picks first then the wolf is the only accused person that also accuses someone. Even if you add the cultist to this it's still unlikely, based on number of players, that the girl is accused unless they claim first and so making it very easy to pick the correct lynch day one.

This modifies the odds to a 1 in X chance of lasting to the end of day one assuming the wolf can post before the girl claims. (so 1 in 2X chance assuming 50% for either to have posted first). Not great for a game really.

If you manage to survive the first two days then likely the girl and original wolf are both dead it's like starting without those two players and all the rest of town have two turns of ability results to work with.

Additional: this is likely to cause a lot of problems.  "Who would want to be the werewolf?" sorts of problems.

Bah, humbug.  I guess I have to put it up on the Signboard thinger, though we really need a better policy for what goes up there and what doesn't (incentive to go through the Games Threshold thread, I mean).

What we really need is for Threshold to be stickied and give a noticeable title.
