LCS: OK, I am confused. Talking instead of shooting?
« on: February 04, 2010, 01:44:15 am »

Hello, I've got a rare recruit with quite high stats, and she started to convert enemies instead of beating... Which stats and conditions allow such behavior? It looks like there's no "combat style" like in DF to choose between convertion or beatings, so I would like to know how to get another agent like this which would distract enemies.

This one was shot in the face while she tried to convert a cop ... :/

Mrs.Peaceful: Oh hello policeman, what do you think about too violent gun laws?
Mc.Cop: Boom! Headshot!

P.S. Also it would be fun to be able to set up an action for an attack, like "shoot/melee(club)/punch/convert". It may be useful to train specialists (and to save ammo when you have some uncoscious creatures without unequipping guns).

Ah, well, it is the rare recruit type that is making this possible, actually. Maybe a Liberal Judge, Eminent Scientist, News Anchor, or Corporate CEO.

What's her class?

I may have missed something, but I thought that speaking attacks were a function of the liberal's "occupation" and nothing else.

To the best of my knowledge, the only liberal you can recruit with a speaking attack is Liberal Judge.  The rest are Arch-Conservatives, although at high Charisma/persuasion you might be able to convince them.  And brainwashing still works, if you have the patience.

Arch-Conservatives with speaking attacks:
Hang'in Judge
CEO
Radio Personality
Cable News Anchor
Emminent Scientist

Edit: Ninja Fox wins again!

I am almost sure she was a Lawyer... Although probably Liberal Judge :P. So, is this a "hardcoded" behavior for a specific class?

Yep. If you want similar behavior from other Liberals, you can equip them with guitars, and they will attack with music skill to try to convert.

It works nicely, a team of dodgy guitar players can capture mediocre enemies immediately. However there's a problem: for some reason it still considers an "attack" and newspapers list "murders" although I simply changed their alignment. Some different more flavorful feedback on my actions would be appreciated if considered for next versions (I want to try to play a LCS game without kills, and I want it to register it properly :D; Not assault, but a "public agitation" or something for musicians and judges if possible please).

Also something to consider for future... Does high wisdom block high music skill? Because if it works as with other skills (skill vs skill) high level people like agents and hangin' judges have no musicianship and are easily converted, sometimes TOO easily I think. Probably wisdom should work vs musics too.

For now I am running with a sneaky disguising team of 4 thieves-ubermusicians and I am able to escape through SWAT teams using my stealth skill on big groups and "music" attacks on smaller groups. Also they all have agility >12 thus they easily go away :D. Fun times. I call the squad "Bremen Musicians" ;D.

I like how it's possible to win battles in a peaceful way, reminds me of Fallout and other great RPG which are rare ones which allow such choice: to kill or not to kill. In most games you have no choice.

P.S. Still musician is not an uberskill. Dogs should be deadly. I don't think you can turn them liberal :D.

Guitars don't kill people, musicians do.

Wisdom doesn't block music skill advancement and I think musical attacks lower wisdom while raising heart. I've never had any problem converting once I have 6 hippie guitarists with music at ~10. And dogs can be turned liberal as soon as animal rights are L+ and animals become people too!
