I'd just kill him normally. He's already insane and babbling, so nothing you could possibly do would be registered to his elf brain, aside from pain.

Don't make this into too big of a deal.

That elf WILL dehydrate and die. You'll be disappointed if you linger..

I trapped elves in an area once. They never went insane, just stood there contemplating life and the universe (or they were REALLY REALLY patientent.) They were there for about 2-6 years.

curse you for predicting his doom. nah I'm just mad/ happy because a few of my dwarves just ran into the wilderness to get something or another and led a pack of the werewolves into my construction project. but I had no cage traps and so nothing to put into the trade depot.

it doesn't matter how you do it. The important thing is that you extract the eflium, turn it into totems and crafts, then sell it to the next caravan (preferably elfen)

I thought elves wouldn't buy skull totems (much less even if elf skull totems)?

Leave him there until he dies, eventually the dwarf that built the floor over him will be driven mad by the beating of a heart long since silenced that only he can hear
Edgar Allen Poe, am i right?

Nah, to get that effect, he'd have to put the Elf in chains, drop down a barrel of Sunshine brew in there as well, and would need to wall off the Elf (not cover the ceiling).

ahh, the Cask of Amontilliado.  classic.

or he could have a dwarf kill him with a hammer, then put the corpse in an alcove and brick it up, only to have it discovered when the sheriff hears the meowing of the cat he walled up with the corpse by accident!

Maybe an inescapable trap, outing him beneath a pit and a *giant steel axe blade*

IIRC elves are immortal. Or is it only about age?
Since siegers stand in front of your fortress enough for your dwarves to take severals meals but you don't see siegers starving, I assume any creature but your dwarves doesn't have to eat/drink.

It already happened, I even checked legends to see what happened it gave dehydration as the reason he died.
