I feel the need to ask what Hamachi IS, and how it works.

It creates a local area network connection over the internets.

Why, how many players is it limited to?
I really don't know, but people were complaining about not being able to connect to the old server, and we only had a few duplicates and inactives.
According to the site, the free version only supports up to 16 per server.

*guidelines*
None of those are too complex. I think I can whip up a python program to do that all when I have some free time tomorrow. It should be able to generate a deck/booster in just a few minutes, as opposed to doing it by hand.

That's lame. So that's the only option we've found?

Well if we all forwarded our ports, Hamachi is unnecessary.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

I still don't know what that means.

No problem. Port forwarding is fun.

Joshua, it means you can directly connect to another computer..something usually only possible if you are on the same network, or you change some internet router settings to let others connect.
(I saw your post about internet router help for a friend, so I expect you will have NO PROBLEMS with that at all.) Oh well, that's why we are using Hamachi. It's quick and easy.

I'll note that I've had no luck forwarding my port. And Shadow should we build our own decks now or will certain people be appointed to make starter decks for others?

No. The reason for that is trust would be required more than it already is, and to extremes.

But always remember, you are not exactly restricted to the tournament system, you can use whatever you like outside of getting points.

Your way of generating boosters seems a bit complicated- I would do it like this:

I`d use the following site: http://magiccards.info/search.html

Under options i`d mark: View as checklist

Then i`d specify the colours, rarity, etc. and start the search.

Now there is a checklist- You could now use an simple random number generator to get your card.

Maybe we could generate the boosters ourselves? E.g Two guys start an apprentice "game" open the magiccards.info site, create their checklist and then they generate the random numbers with the "roll a x sided die" function of apprentice.

Since those two would be opponents in the tournament i don`t think that there would be any cheating.

Well, generating a random card using python is a lot harder than I expected. I think my school's firewall is blocking python's attempt to connect, making it time out.  If I fix that I think I've got a program to generate random cards of a specific color and rarity, or from a specific block(though that one's a lot slower). From there I can set it up to generate your decks/boosters pretty quick.

Can you only connect from your school? If you have it so all I have to do is open it and run it if you send it to me I could test it.

Nah, I'm a commuter, so I've got a much less secure network I can use now that I'm home. Of course, now it's printing the entire webpage's html... Bigger error than I though, but it should be working sometime soon.

Edit: Or maybe not. the method used by both gatherer and magiccards.info to generate cards/lists means that I'm able to access the code that generates the list... but not the list itself. I don't really know how to fix that.
