The MTG Club
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:33:13 pm »

Welcome to the Magic The Gathering Club, where we organize the DF community's active or wishing to become active Magic players, things have died down a bit, especially since I've dropped support for the tournament system(which you can see below), but I'm hoping the magic community around here remains strong.

Here is a link to how I assembled random decks and boosters.

Here we use Apprentice for our games, be sure to download all the patches with the full download.(just get the following)
Scars of Mirroden patch

You may also get apprentice here in a 7z file. http://www.mediafire.com/?35p4844b4cpp95u

Our Hamachi Network is 'SDW MTG' password 'Magic'. (case sensitive)

We also provide a service for random decks and random booster packs, with a tournament system for obtaining points, which are used to 'purchase' the aforementioned boosters.

When you join you may request to enter the 'tournament system' in which a random deck will be generated for you. When requesting a deck, specify one or two colors and you will receive a full 60 card deck with 15 card sideboard to start with.
From that point you can challenge other players to one on one games, after which the victor will be rewarded with 15 points, and the loser 5(be sure to announce your wins and losses). Or enter one of the tournaments which may be organized in the near future, tournaments have higher point rewards and 'grand prizes' Of course all revolving around the cards or points.

You may turn in points for the following:

Trades are allowed, but please inform me.

And for those who just want to read, there are these full manuals.

And of course, the official card database:Gatherer

People have been having trouble putting cards on the bottom of their library, well just shift-click and drag the card onto your library.

So, to patch, you just unzip the files over the already existing ones?

Also, how do we "join" this? Never used apprendice since its basically magic workstation without the latest blocks and card piccies.

One person sets up a server sorta, then another connects, you might want to use a chat program to contact others and hamachi for easy connectivity.

Ehhh, we should just switch to magic workstation, because people actualy care enough about it to create an update with worldwake's spoiler.

Plus it has a chat and a direct connection function, so no other software is needed, and you can upload high res card pics with a special uploader to have a better experience. Sure, its a shareware, but the only limitation is that you can't use avatars if you don't pay. It also has 2 working servers, 1 for tournaments and 1 for regular play up at all times.

Don't know how we'd do the random deck, points and card purchase thing on it though, we could just build our decks from the massive library and have fun with it. Less randomness, more reliability. Plus, if we use MWS instead, we can try zendikar standard, which is the current standard using alara, M10 and zendikar, instead of the super old stuff apprendice runs with.

Look, if you want to use workstation so be it, but if you want in the tournament system your going to have to use apprentice, I just don't want people to be segregated between the two systems. And me, Taco Dan, and DFnewb are already set up with apprentice.

Ehhh kay, count me out of it then, I don't wanna wrestle with hamachi's firewall issues just to play with a random deck using old as hell blocks with a program nobody updates anymore.  :-\

I think if you want to actually play with anyone, you'll probably have to use apprentice.
Sorry.

I want to play. Unfortunately, my hardware is unreliable, and I won't be able to test if I can run it until tomorrow. Anyone know if Apprentice is Linux-compatible?

I would also like to play, although my experience is limited to an old Izzet starter deck I used against an epic light deck (even if I got him to remove the blue and red immunity cards from his deck). I will be able to play tomorrow if I can get the program to like my system.

Even though I like the system of the game very much, I still don't like the card rarity system though. Such a thing was why I was playing Arcomage instead of Magic; because everyone has access to every card, and it's decently balanced.

Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

I searched 'MTG apprentice Linux' and got results for this thing:
http://mindless.sourceforge.net/
From what I understand it can connect with and/or is compatible with apprentice, though your on your own getting it set up with everything up to Conflux. (although reading the FAQ I get the impression that you can use that conflux patch up in the first post)

Alright, thanks, although apprentice does seem to work fine for me. I'd like to request a spot in the tournament system and a blue deck.
