Good luck!

At my store the drafts are usually saturdays- But i haven`t drafted in a while. I might go to the next prerelease, though.

What I like about drafts is that its an equalizer, not to mention a great way to snag a few good cards. The 25% off is nice to. Unfortunatly they had run out of DCI cards so I ended up playing on the register guy's card so my standing went to him. They should have more tommarrow.

I got second in a draft a week or two ago(I almost won that last match too...), not a real tournament, just a school club, but still awesome. The main reason I won was "Rite of replication" + a bunch of allies that together decked my foes insanely fast! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

How do drafts work?
How much do they cost usually?

In draft generally you purchase three booster packs, now the price where I'm at the boosters are 25% off for this though I don't know if other stores that hold drafts do the same thing. The draft I do costs about $10 after discount. What happens is everyone sits around a table, opens a pack at the same time, discard the basic land and token thats in each pack, and chooses 1 card from the stack and passes the rest on to the person next to them, and takes the stack from the person on the other side of them and takes a card, ect. When that pack is gone the next pack is opened, the direction you pass in is changed (either to your right or left), and the process starts again until all the packs have been opened and distributed. Then you make a deck out of the cards you get (like with the one I as at you had about 42 cards or so) of at least 40 cards, the shop lends out basic lands as needed.

Argh, now I remember why I hate deck-building. Somehow anything less than 125 cards is useless! I just can't say goodbye to them...

This is me when I played Yu-Gi-Oh.
I had this HUGE fat deck that I carried around...I just couldn't stand to leave any of my cards out.

I think also that drafting needs the most skill. You have to know which cards to pick, you have to learn how to build a good deck, you have to read signs etc.

I had a friend way back who played international, who taught me a bit. I didn't like his playing-style, I'm more of a casual player myself. He liked drafts the best, because of the intricacies it involves, and second-guessing which cards were in which booster and who took them. The trick is to almost know exactly who plays what and tried to build what combos at the end of the draft, without having seen what they have. Bit too much WIFOM for me, that...

Okay, 2 hours later I'm down to 70... ten more. It's becoming a one-trick deck like this... I want 10 tricks! Dammit.

Okay, it's done. Anyone wants a "friendly" game (for points, not for the tourney) so I can test out my deck?

Well thats a given but its still a hell of alot more equal than people bringing their own decks.
