What is the advantage of taking a random deck instead of a mega pack?

I just see people complaining that they faced a new super-card that wasn't a threat to someone earlier...
I'm trusting that people will not modify their decks during the tournament, if I catch word of such a thing I'll see what I can do about it.
The entire concept of this "club" is built on trust, really. It would be so easy for anyone to add unearned cards into their deck, but we can only trust that nobody will ruin the fun.

Please don't ruin the fun.

I just found a great way to make decks: http://mtg.keryas.com
It has a cool deck creator, that can export to Apprentice. I haven't fully played around with it but it seems good. Note: you have to register to use it first. Also you need to save your deck before being able to Export it.

Quote from: Vintage Format Deck Construction
If a player wishes to use a sideboard, it must contain exactly fifteen cards.

This rule seems stupid to someone with exactly 75 cards who is too weak to abandon all their preciouses, can we have a Sideboard of less than 15 cards?

What exactly can we do with our sideboard, I believe that we only have a match per opponent, so do we spy on our opponents deck? or tell each other our colours? or just not use the sideboard? Or am I missing something?

Your sideboard must contain 15 cards, but you're free to put basic lands in your sideboard, if you want.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Oh, right, we can get all the basic lands we want for free.

I will fill the rest of my sideboard with swamps and islands then, even split favouring the colour I have more of in the non-sideboard deck.

What is the advantage of taking a random deck instead of a mega pack?

You will probably get more cards of the colour you want, i think. Also you get cards from different editions.

And yeah- How will the tournament matches be? Best out of 3? (You play 3 times and whoever wins 2 times, wins.) Or just a single game?

You can choose exactly what color/colors you want for the random deck.
Interesting twist is you can't name a specific block or expansion.

And you tournament will be single games.

Before Shadow posts this.
I found a easy way to make decks and from now on all you need to make a deck is simple.

Make a text file. Make the extension .DEC, and then put a number and a card name inside of it.

Example:
Code: [Select]
[tt]2 Exile[/tt]
Save it and make sure it's a .DEC. Go into Apprentice and open it with the deck editor, and what do you see? You see a deck with 2 cards in it. The cards are 2 exiles. I am sure Shadow will start sending Boosters and decks this way to people so all they have to do it copy and paste it into a word/note pad and then save it as a .DEC so they don't need to use apprentices simple, but slow system of finding cards. Well that's my 2 cents for tonight  :P

That's what I was trying to say earlier, but since I don't have Apprentice installed right now, I couldn't provide examples.

It took me a little while to figure out which button would save the file in a readable format, but the most obvious button to me produced a file that was compressed or something...

Ah yes, export in text format, apprentice32 format is not readable...

This is an example.
Quote from: text format
//NAME: Manaless Ichorid - kitty
     4 Serum Powder
     2 Dread Return
     1 Lion's Eye Diamond
     2 Dragon Breath
     4 Cabal Therapy
     4 Leyline of the Void
     2 Urza's Bauble
     4 Bridge from Below
     4 Golgari Grave-Troll
     4 Golgari Thug
     4 Ichorid
     1 Nether Shadow
     4 Narcomoeba
     2 Shambling Shell
     2 Sutured Ghoul
     4 Stinkweed Imp
     4 Street Wraith
     4 Bazaar of Baghdad
     4 Chalice of the Void
 SB: 4 Dryad Arbor
 SB: 3 Bayou
 SB: 4 Reverent Silence
 SB: 4 Pithing Needle
SB: indicates a sideboard, I found it quite easy to change my deck list into this format with a little copy/pasting in notepad...

I don't think that my deck can win without cheating...

I'd like to play. I haven't used apprentice before, but I doubt it will be too hard to figure out.
