With everything I can possibly recommend, use Magic Workstation. I've used both, MWS is FAR better than Apprentice. Sure, it's a little tougher to get set up, but having a built in lobby is extremely nice. Besides, the card pictures are actually kind of nice.

Oh, and here. There's your Worldwake patch. Guess what? It's also got Zendikar, M10, Unhinged, Unglued, and even Planechase.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Thanks for that patch, as for the MWS vs Apprentice battles that always spark up whenever I bring along apprentice, I'm well aware MWS has all the shiny stuff over Apprentice, but once again, we are already set up with Apprentice and I don't want this thread to devolve into another battle, so please no more bringing up Workstation.

Care for a MWS game? I've been itching to test my Type 2 artifact combo, mah MWS playing friend isn't on right now and I really want to test it.

Ah, I need to specify my colors for the tournament?

I'll take Blue-Green then. Yeah, you heard me.

I used to have a college buddy who played international tournaments and actually made money on MTG, and he sold me his (un)commons for a very low price. So I had boxes full of almost worthless cards. Building decks with junk was my specialty ;)
That was 12 years ago, though...

Does your tournament/system allow trading?

Using points to purchase 5 random rares doesn't help if I start with a 2 color starting deck.  Statistical probably of getting a card that:
A) Is actually a good rare, and not just one of those tricky but "useless" ones (In MTG, usually useless simply means useless until you find the 5 card combo needed to win games with that paticular rare.  And of course, all the main combo cards are rare...)
AND
B) Matches my starting colors

Is pretty rare in and of itself.

EDIT: Then again, maybe you all wanted to be friends after the tournament.  Implementing trading would make that impossible.  :D

Now that I've tried, I have discovered I have no idea how to join. Was the game already played and over?

Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

I guess not, but information about how apprentice and this so called "Hamachi network" works would be awesome.

Also, can anyone find me a decent, short list of the current rules that's not in effin video-format? I failed my google-fu-exam.

Rulebooks are on the official site. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article.aspx?x=magic/rules

Do we really need Hamachi for this?

I found a bit of a guide and the magic academy, which are almost like rule lists.

 So where is Hamachi?

Why so much hate for MWS? It seems persisting with apprendice would take far longer then just downloading MWS who got hamachi's functions, a messenger and all blocks in? Plus you'd be able to play with hella lot more people if you wishes so.

The online PDF rule books are here:
Normal one: http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/EN_Magic_Basic_Rulebook_20090710.pdf

and the advanced one: http://www.wizards.com/magic/comprules/MagicCompRules_20091005.pdf

Well we already got it working with Hamachi and Apprentice. I haven't yet tried MWS but it seems alright as well, but we already have it working so why change that?

Everyone may play whenever they feel like, for tournaments when announced will have deadlines for bouts to be resolved(although I will try to remain as lax as possible)
For free play, just state here that you would like to play against someone and I'll add that game request to the second post. Then when someone picks up on the request, meet on Hamachi and play(live chat like Steam or Skype will help lots, Hamachi also has a built in chat system)

I guess not, but information about how apprentice and this so called "Hamachi network" works would be awesome.

For apprentice, you can start a new game in solitaire mode using one of the pre-made decks, then mess around in the actual program to get a feel for it.

It's not so much hate for the actual program, just that I'm tired of people ranting and raving about how it is better when I've already got myself and now others set up nicely with apprentice.
