Here's what we've been able to get accomplished today so far.
Quote
[Fixed] getSelectedObject(uint) was returning an invalid reference, causing a crash.
[Added] The bottom-right box now shows quantities for each type of object selected, as well as names of each planet selected. You may also interact with individual sub-groups with the mouse and key modifiers (ctrl and shift)
[Added] Added a scroll to select the scale for new sub systems, to allow rapidly adding many of a specific size.
[Added] More resolutions are available in the resolutions option list.
[Added] Added planet queue Save/Load/Clear functionality and accompanying buttons.

Anyone else playing this much? I've been contributing to their forums under the name Dahak :D

It's certainly a bit unpolished, but definitely worth the $25. Even unfinished, the game has more design depth with ships than any I've ever played before. Tiny changes in a ship can Double, triple, etc its effectiveness. The AI is a bit weak ATM, but improving. The devs work extremely fast, and talk with the playerbase plenty. They also listen to suggestions, and several recent suggestions have been picked up for implementation in the very next weeks patch.

I've been doing A LOT of experimentation and the such recently, both for bug reporting, as well as perfecting some of my concepts. Even if you know some of the grammatically strange things (Damage reduction on armor is actually absorption, hull DR is a percent that is absorbed, and so on), there's still an incredible amount to learn in ship design and the such.

Well it looks like this is being updated pretty well.  I'd probably get it if my desktop worked.  :-\

I'd get this if I had some means to, it sounds very cool. It sounds like it would hold my attention longer than both Sins of a Solar Empire (one week? Two?) and Sword of the Stars (ten minutes?).
What didn't you like about Sword of the Stars? I sympathize on Sins, it was okay but didn't really hold my interest, but SOTS is one of my favorite 4x space games.

Ahh, well... if you can't look at a game for more than 10 minutes before becoming bored then don't try Star Ruler out right now, wait until they patch it up some.

And ask your doctor for some medication.

i kind of understand him...  it took me 3 attempts to fall in love with sots, too.
i gues it just takes some time to notice the awsomeness of sots minimalistic approach on planet developement and micro management.

No no no, it's not a problem like that. It's like buying a book while you have other books to read, so that one gets pushed off to the side.

Only I haven't bothered to pick the book back up yet.

You should make time for SotS. It has a slow start, but like most 4x games you have to start meeting other races amongst the stars before things pick up. There's lots of trading and diplomacy to mess with, which I hope Star Ruler gets into soon. As it stands, Star Ruler starts slow and never ends.

I really liked how over the course of the game's life the developers advanced the overall story with lore entries and new/different random encounters introduced in free patches.

Just before the Born of Blood expansion, the new race in that expansion began showing up in new random encounters which slowly ramped up as the release date neared, and the same thing happened for the "A Murder of Crows" expansion.

i too am watching this game with interests but have not yet buy maybe i should. Is it better than that pile of fecies known as Sins of a Solar empire?

Ive also got Swords of the Stars but have never managed to spend more than about 30mins playing it, not sure why.

Ive considered Distant worlds but detest its £24 quid asking price, this is £16 on gamersgate far more reasonables.

an then theres Aurora a game ive downloaded by balked at the interface and game guides.

my favourite 4x so far remains Ascendacy, although galciv 2 is pretty good.

Also i might considers Gratuetous space battles if cliffski impliments a campagne

i loved acendancy, too. sadly the ai was just to bad. same with space empires V. nice game, but way to easy.
i spend endless hours playing moo2, and i still play this game from time to time.
i also liked moo3. poor interface, confusing and way to big galactic map, to many klicks to start a game and verry poor performance and a medicore ai. but still... solid space 4X :D

however, theres one aspekt common to all these game that bores me to death meanwhile: doing the same thing, building the same colony upgrades ever and ever and ever and ever again.

and than... theres sots... no repetive building-building, virtualy no micromanagement *at all* (k, exept frighters but these can be queed for all colonys from within one screen).
proably the most important part: i play this game since 2007, and the  an ai still is strong enugh to beat the living shit out of me in 4 out of 5 on hard mode oO . sure... its mainly because the ai will get these imba ecco bonusses on hard,  but still, the first and only ai i ever met thats actualy capable to suprise me with new designs and taktics even after such a long me time me playing it.
did i mention the awsome multiplayer mode?

jeah. im a fanboy^^

I thought the SOTS AI didn't cheat unless you set it to do so. Even on hard it only gets economic bonuses if you specifically set it to.

just fired this up and played the tutorial (had to wait a week for a new wireless card gamersgate demand that the computer that plays must be connected to internets)

so far i think this games awsome

i really like that ships have to decellerate by flipping over, and i really like the potentail for niche ship designs - they included hydrogen scoops! I also like that its free roam in 3d, no dam starlanes.

Little clarification:  13th is the earliest the game can arrive on Steam; it may be a day or so after or it could be right on the nose.  Should be up around then however. :)

Huh? I got it from gamersgate and don't have to have the computer that plays it connected to the net. You have to download it with an internet connection, but you can just copy the executable installer over to a computer without an internet connection.
