That Blue thing is a sun, am I correct?  Are different colored stars in the game?

*Note: Old Code
(We pick a (sensible) random temperature and get the color using that code.  It's randomized but also has a curve based on certain things so that blue stars are common, etc.)

Well...this looks like an interesting game...although my question that i've had an issue with alot of other strategy games is will this game have an unlimited amount of research or posibly so much that you couldn't finish it in a single game?

That's hard to say.  We're working on revising the research portion of the game at the moment alongside Diplomacy and are implementing what we feel is a fairly unique system.  We do want a rich and diverse set of technologies for players to pursue and we would like to keep things fresh with every new game.  The revision to the research system we're working on right now should help preserve the 'newness' of technological pursuit as well as having something more than the typical linear progression common in other titles.

In short:  Yes, we do want to keep Research as interesting a system as possible so that beyond the first ten games exploring the tech trees you will still find new and interesting things to explore technologically and still be making choices that both matter and are not the same ones you made last game.

Precursors or "Old Ones" are a common theme in alot of space empire games. Any plans to include them?

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Are biological weapons going to be included?
Assassinating a planet by firing a capsule filled with a super-virus would be an interesting way to conduct a war.

That's entirely possible and we've already discussed among the staff how we might accomplish that.

Thought I'd make sure to share with y'all some of the new screenshots we just put up on the site and on our gallery on ModDB.  Enjoy! ;D  (We just spruced up the combat portion of the particle system)

You know, the color of an object of any given temperature is very predictable using the equations for blackbody radiation. Probably something you already are aware of. I can't exactly tell what you're doing in those equations, but am I somewhere close to the mark?

Yep.  In fact, we name our source of information for how we 'know' what temperatures produce what colors right there in the code I posted.  Here's some quicklinks if you'd like to see how we did our system of star coloration:
