Hello everyone, it's been a while since I last wandered here. I'll post this here, that's where it fits best I think.
Dunc's Algomusic is a simple program that generates music randomly, either by randomising it itself or by having you input some letters and/or numbers.
It can be downloaded
here or
here (both same version, around 600 Ko).
The interesting thing about it is that it is a seed-based system, just like the map generation of Dwarf Fortress, so when you input a name and like what you hear, you can type it in later and get the same result.
For example, you can type "Dwarf Fortress" (minus the quotation marks) and you'll get a lively tune that'll fit nicely with the game, because we got lucky. You can also try and type your nickname, or whatever you want, and see what you get.
I also tried "Boatmurderd", and I must say, I really like this one. It has a slowly growing tension feel to it that makes you remember certain bloody events...
Note that
the names are case-sensitive, so "Boatmurdered" will turn out completely different from "boatmurdered", but letter placement makes no difference, as well as which one you capitalize (but it as to be the same number of capital letters) so "Boatmurdered" and "oatburMdered" will be the same.
So there you have it, try it, see what you get and you'll most certainly stumble on little gems that will make you fire this little program up again and again.
Now am I a good salesman or what ? Too bad it's free.
If you are using Windows Vista and get an "
Illegal Memory access" error message, you have to disable Data execution protection. You may also have to set the program to XP compatibility and be using an admin account.
