BitTorrent is also pretty ominous.

My goodness, I can just hear downloading here. You know, if someone decided to make a movie about BitTorrent, this would make a perfect soundtrack.
And now I can't resist saying it:
I believe, to this point composers have sucked at making good music for videogame film adaptations (not that films themselves are usually any good... but that's a point for a different thread). So, how about computer itself tries?
Going to check out a "DOOM" score now.

Edit: Wow, "DOOM_1st_person_sequence" doesn't really fit it's name but has quite a bit of rock to it!
That goes to prove what the designer of another computer music said on his page (which is linked to on "Dunc's Algomusic"):
Quote
[Computers can compose music] and in fact they do it better than most people.[...]The only thing which gives us, people an edge at composing music is that a real person can tell which one composition sounds better than others. A computer can create hundreds of songs in a second but it will never be able to tell which one it likes the most.
Sequences of the aforementioned piece can be very good, just no one bothered to teach computer to take one and work on it.

'Clothes Rotting Off' has an impressively silent beginning.

'Booze is Burning' has a very alarmist sound to it.

'Dwarf Fortress Legendary Lands' sounds nice.

'Chaos Lord' is nicely thematic.

'The Water is Rising' is quite nice

'Can't Bury the Dead' sounds pretty morose.

'Fight the Hydra' is interesting.

'Broken Spine' is pretty great.

'Drown in the Melting Glacier' is pleasant.

'Stabbed in the Lung' is upbeat with dark tones.

'He Hadn't Finished His Crumpet' is nice

'Eat the Other Survivors' is morose, turning into hilarious

'loincloth challenge' is pretty epic

"the hermit challenge" makes me think about a Jason Vorhees-style dwarf that wants to be alone, using the same technique as Jason. Tension mounts, crimes are comitted, paranoïa rises...
It fits well with that old AAR thread of an hermit using traps to kill everybody.

Blitz 3D was a ridiculous language for me try this kind of application with, but it was the only way I could incorporate it into my games.
I'm currently learning Python. Although I've not delved into handling wave files yet, hopefully there will be some module support for exporting, and it will certainly be more stable.

In the meantime, there is another version of DAM with a different algorithm that produces more pretentious songs. You need to unzip it for it to work (Blitz, yuck, etc).

Just downloaded it.

Try "Aberration".  I swear it was composed.

That is a great one holy crap!

Creepy too. I haven't found any thing with this version yet (but am trying!).

Edit:
This one isn't too bad under the V56.

Interesting...

Alexhans is a nice tune... it's starts pretty somber but it's still cool.

We need to have a contest for the best Song from a nick.  ;D

I tried
Enchanted Weapon - [Interesting.  Although a bit slow. ]
Dwarven Alcohol - [slooooow... ]
bnbnbnbnbn - [weird, deep notes at the beginning, but then it gets better]
Psyco jelly - [rythmic, progressive start]
ohh... I just realized...  Caps DO matter.  The seed is case-sensitive.  Some of those songs might not be the exact same you guys heard :P [EDIT: I need to read carefully the first post... :P]
Psyco Jelly - [tranquil]

Ok... So far... Alexhans wins... listen to it... Dont end it soon... it's really good.  wow... I ... wow... it gets better... it's really long...
ok... now it's getting a bit annoying in a section, but it's just a path to build up and continue... heh... ok... well... it could end now... woah... after all this... it keeps going... it's not really good now though... ok... ending it... meh... it's building up again... but it needs to die... done...

Ok... Narushima... This is AWESOME...

EDIT: "The Omeguis" is pretty cool.

Christmas may just be the least fitting music ever.

I found out that longcat starts with no instruments whatsoever. It takes that song a very... long time... to get going. Even then, it went back to just a metronome before I changed song.

I like my song, but I actually like Toady One's better.

I really like Armok's song, though.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Downloaded but it gives me 'Illegal Memory Address' error on boot :<

Edit: saw previous posts, going to try disabling Data Execution Prevention now.

Edit 2: And behold, it works :D

All of the following are pretty good to listen to for 500 ticks. Anything after that is either going to stay the same, or get seriously out-of-sync with the title.

"Recruited from Commoners" - A bit 'busy' but has nice depth to it. Improves at ~600 ticks.
"Training in the Barracks"
"Graduation Ceremony" - You should probably stop listening after ~550. It gets somewhat messy.
"A Champion of Dwarves" - Not entirely as impressive as the title suggests.
"Hopeless Fight"
"Bleeding on the Battlefield"
"Recovering the Wounded" - Slow and methodical, until 'EPIC' happens, that is. The 'grinding' noise after that can be a drawbridge, and later echos of tunnels.
"Clean the Wound with Soap" - As dark and 'grimey' as the title suggests.
"Visiting the Surgeon" - A dwarf getting a limb amputated. :'(
"Contemplating Suicide"
"Jumping into the Chasm"

Okay, I'm totally going to plug two related podcasts, I hope you'll forgive me:
"One Life Left", a radio show about video games that airs on Resonance FM. One presenter, Ste, has mentioned Dwarf Fortress several times. I ran a short regular feature called "Week O' Wiki Wah Wah", and I used Dunc's Algomusic as my backing music (which lazily saved me hours of effort {except for the time it took to program the thing in the first place}). They are on a season break right now but old episodes can be listened to here: http://www.onelifeleft.com/
"Iconochromatic" is a podcast I produce with Derek Williams, and we conduct undefinitive reviews of games and films. We don't use Algomusic, but we do play some other music that we have collaborated on. http://iconochromatic.jhenge.com/
Toodles!
-Duncan.

P.S. "Failing Wavelengths" (V56)
