Rather than new uses for magma, I would like to see new (or any) uses for fire.  I would like to build massive fire-places or place torches in sconces along the walls.

I can already see dwarves cancelling a fill magma pond job because there was no adamantine bucket available...

Temperature-sensitive floors/walls would be the first step. Could do it with either magma, or steam pipes (Roman style). Basically the more steam-powered or heat-requiring things, the more useful magma becomes.


And man, nerve-stapling would solve so many of my problems..

/has had "Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you." as his shutdown .wav pretty much continuously since SMAC came out.
