I have been watching quite a bit of "Ghost Adventures" lately and, unless they are doctoring their film, it seems pretty hard to explain away some of the stuff they witness at the locations.  Go watch several of those episodes and then tell me that there isn't at least a part of you that believes in it.  Some very freaky stuff.

Put less gently and with more detail:

You come up with some of the most hilariously bizarre "theories" and "ideas," and then come here and facepalm because we believe in ghosts.  I'm not sure anyone here's actually said outright that they believe in ghosts.

I didn't say I had no belief of ghosts, just that I will not until there is some proof. Wait. That was contradicting.

My family.
Most of them believe they have had paranormal experiences.
I was told growing up that our house was filled to the brim with ghosts. Someone was murdered there, after all.
I didn't ever go to the bathroom at night.
Ever.

Lessee...

my father claims to have seen the ghost of one of his relatives when he was a boy.

My sister has seen spirits dozens of times, and is an avid ghost-watcher.

Somewhere, crammed away in a box, there are some photographs of me at about age ten or twelve, standing next to a a headstone, with the shadowy outline of what appears to be a man in uniform standing at attention a few yards to my right.

Do I believe in ghosts? You betcha.

I tend to be pretty skeptical and paranormal activity just doesn't seem very plausible to me. Psychics for example, when put up to scientific scrutiny they have always (as far as I know) failed to produce results that would proved psychics are real. Yet I know someone who defies my skepticism. She wins money consistently (but not 100% of the time). Many times I've seen her meet someone completely new, and has been able to tell them something specific about them that she shouldn't have been able to know. She's been known to call relatives up who've been hurt to ask them if they are ok (when no one else knew about the injury yet).

I'm pretty sure that most psychics are shiesters. They tend to be very charismatic people who know how to lead someone on. In fact I once ran across a forum on the internet where people talked about their trade, how to trick people into believing. Yet the person I was speaking about before, I know her very well. I know she isn't a liar and that she genuinely believes in psychic phenomena and ghosts and spirits and what have you.

It really makes it hard for an ol' skeptic like me to remain skeptical.  ???

I won't believe in ghosts until either I see them or some evidence is found.
after that, I will worry about afterlife. I am not comfortable with anything that involves eternity, forever, etc.

Just reading this stuff makes me feel uneasy, paranoid and makes my eyes water.
But thats just my lively imagination.

Only thing I can think of, are things randomly falling over when I'm trying to fall asleep, but its been a long time since the last incident happened.

There's been much strange things happening to me.
I let you know if I remember anything.

Even if "some part of me believes in it" that doesn't mean I beleive in it. Some part of me believes in soul mates, meeting cute, and meaningful signs from the universe, but I don't.

On the other hand, it's odd that western media developed the same portrayal of ghosts separately from the east. There are words for the paranormal in many different languages. Plenty of cultures fear ghosts that lurk in woods. Many have a bloodsucking one. Almost every culture expects ghosts in graveyards, hospitals, and murder scenes, without contact with each other.

You ignore the fact that there were connections between east and west back in the day, if not often direct ones.  Furthermore, you ignore two more important things:  the human tendency toward mysticism, animism, and magical thinking, and the fact that human cultures generally have some ancient links back to very early human culture in the days before we migrated far from Africa.  So no matter how isolated a culture, it wasn't always isolated (i.e. they didn't sprout from the ground or anything -- they came from somewhere).

IMO those similarities hint at either past connections or inherent human traits.  They do not imply that "ZOMG ghosts is real!"
