So, things I'm jealous about:

1) Those are awesome caverns.
2) I will probably never get to go to the Air and Space Museum.
3) Your kids are far more photogenic than I was at that age.

Cute kids. But why were there two fences? I'm fairly certain that there used to be only one...

It's a strategy known since medieval times: between the fences, there is a 'killzone' of no cover nor concealment (no crowd of passersby), and it's very clear one is up to no good if spotted there. I doubt archers would start shooting at you if you were to step/climb over the first fence, though.

No, but there was an armed Secret Service guy about 10 feet to the left. I think the barrier is there because they had so many high-profile instances recently of people jumping the fence. This gives that extra 1-2 seconds to go "hey, that guy is trying something" before you could start scaling the actual fence. Though it's a pretty damn tall fence, you'd have to have some parkour skills to scale it quick.

Zombies are srsbsns. The makeup was a little the worse for wear when I got around to taking the pictures (I applied it ~nine hours ago), but the effect is still there.

I don't think he was trying. Looks like a zombie already! What's actually happening is his human makeup is wearing out and he'll need to reapply it soon before people notice the zombie apocalypse has begun.

Yeah, it did a bit. Thanks! I'm actually considering pursuing makeup art a bit further. It's all the funnest parts of sculpting and painting at the same time.
