I believe the technical term for it is a "stick".

The bamboo training swords are called Shinai. Bokken are wooden training swords.

Bokken are solid wood, and shinai are slatted horizontally and thus circular (or square.) That is neither, and is not a formal piece of kendo equipment. It's a hybrid "full force" shinai-bokken made by people who don't know what the hell they're doing. I'm sorry to say, but those things are junk.

Do not spar with it. When they were re-introduced to the kendo scene when I was a teenager (Sensei told me that these gimmicky things come around once every 10 years or so,) I thought it would be cool to do full-speed kata with them. I broke four of them in under 20 minutes. I've only ever broken a single slat on one shinai and I've been sparring with them full speed for years. If you hit someone with that who is not armored, and it breaks, it could seriously hurt them. They do not just break, they shatter, and it is not pretty.
