Or do, I guess. Nothing to do with me. I think those sorts of hairstyles are bland and terribly overdone, but it's up to you.

Well, I never realized how widespread it was until I moved to Miami (for university). Coming from small-town America, no one I knew had hair like that, even in the cities (I come from Connecticut). It's not really that hipster any more I think, I don't know! What I AM sure of is that I have essentially had this mop of medium-short hair on my head for a while, and I want something drastically different.

yea, lol. I found that out after trying to look it up more. Of course, you'll never see anyone but beautiful people when you search hair. (except that one hideous guy, who decided to get a pretty severe one, yikes!) but thanks Descie.

...Huh. Around here it's pretty much the uniform for male hipsters, often paired with a badly-maintained beard and black-framed glasses.
It is becoming distressingly popular with other folks too, though.

The same ...thing... could've been observed here about a year ago. Now, fortunately, most of  the hipsters of this design are gone.

Funnily enough, they're a tradition in Brussels called the Meyboom (Pronounced Meibaum), which as nothing at all to do with anything you guys do across the border.

Instead of planting a birch tree in front of your loved one's house, the Meiboom celebration is a holiday in one popular part of town, where the Brotherhood of St-Laurence (which held the privilege of planting since the early 14th centyry) plants a young beech tree at a crossroad on the 9th of August. (Yet it's called meiboom. Belgian folklore doesn't really care about your "sense".)

Traditionally, the tree has to be planted before 17h under the watchful eye of a family of papier maché giants: Janneke, Mieke and their kids Bompa and Boma. Because we just like giants. It's not actually clear what would happen if the planting was late, but probably Bad Thing©.

The legend is that the privilege of planting the meiboom was granted to Brussels after some beer tax related battle with Leuven, and the people from the Brotherhood of St-Laurence still keep a watchful eye for those crafty Leuvenian trying to disrupt the ceremony and delay the planting beyond the fated 17h. They haven't really tried anything over the last 500 years or so, but you can be sure those sneaky sons of bitches are just waiting for us to let our guard down.
