I'm currently wearing a ponytail for utilitarian reason (translation: FUKKEN HEAT) and I look like an absolute idiot. Mostly for the same reasons why I keep my hair long-ish in the first place.

Come now, some mullets look okay. They're not all horrible.
An understated mullet where the hair is just a bit longer in the back isn't so bad. Actually going from short hair to sudden long hair midway is a dreadful look, though.
